Yes, you can use the old parts if they are good... For that price you could probably find a whole motor though.

The engine has 90,000 miles so i think its probably worth it. I just got a settlement for 10k so i have a couple hundred extra. The cat clogged and toasted the head. The pistons and valves looked alright. The head comes with a del sol cam. Would this work with the 90 D15 EX engine or should i stick with the original cam? Thanks

Need to stop and take a step back and figure out exactly what motor you have.
You said "90 D15 EX" and that never existed.
EXs only have a D16 as far as I know.

!990 CRX EX with duel point injection. Base economy model. Im sure its the 1.5 liter engine. Not sure how the cams work? Muscle cars i can tell you. But Hondas??? Is it the cam gear that makes the difference? So the del sol head is the same i take it?

Hm.
DX, HF, or SI. EX is a Civic only thing.
Guessing you mean DX?!?!?
That is the DPFI trim that you speak of.

The cam works the same as a muscle car.
The difference being that there aren't any push rods.
Instead, the rocker rides directly on the cam.

To reconfirm the answer to your original question -
Everything from your cracked head will transfer over to the re manufactured head as long as it's the same head!
Don't get some other head and expect your cam to fit in it.

Obviously you don't know anything about "muscle cars" either. Different motor different camshafts, different computer systems. It would be like saying a 305 cam is the same as a 350, or did you really think they were the same too?

Timing sets do not change the lobes on a camshaft. Yes, they can be advanced or retarded to get desired results, or making up for factory imperfections, or when machine work is done... Hondas work identical in respect to any gas piston engine. The only difference being the rocker arms ride directly on the camshaft rather than having push rods and lifters.
