MT-24.5x9x13 vs M&H-24.5x9.5x13
I have changed things around to go back to the small tire mainly because of the IFO rule change. I have wil making me some nice 13x10 star 8s and I have always used the MT and the compound seems to be softer and hook better. But my question is has anyone tried the M&h 24.5x9.5x13 vs the MT 24.5x9x13. Im sure this has been discussed before but thought I would throw it out there, let me know what you guys have found out.
I've ran both and I didn't see too much difference between them. I will say my Mickeys are softer but they seem to be peeling back instead of smoothing out after a burnout or pass. They are only two years old also.
Info about our coupe. Ek coupe, 2580lbs. No alignment, no corner balancing, No front weight bar, on KYB shocks all around with 800lbs springs on the rear.
We initially ran some 4 year old 25x8.7 M&Hs that were covered in fiberglass and resin. LOL. We had used that wheel and tire as our test wheel when the front end kits were being designed. So we scraped off the stuff off the sidewall and our first event with the car, we had high 1.5 60fts and averaged out to 1.60. This tire had about 20-30 passes in the last season of NHRA SFWD in 07. We put on another 15-20 end of 2010 before we switched tires.
We switched to some brand new 24.5x9.5x13 MH a couple track days after and we were averaging 1.58-1.62
I know we could have gotten better but our car just wasnt setup right. Alot of weight transfer during shifts that caused alot of lost traction on 2nd. We started putting more power into 2nd gear but we never got to really dial in the car with the 24.5s. Switched to 26x10 MH the last event 4 weeks ago.
Overall, thats our experience with the MH.

I wish I had good info to give you, but I still need some seat time to figure out where to launch my car at. Im running too much boost and timing in first, so I know I can get my 60' down. But I havent had enough seat time this year to mess with it at all.
But I can say I went from beat, 6 year old M/Ts to the M&Hs, and the 60' stayed the same. But like I said, I know I can improve it. I just wonder if I could have improved it on the beat to hell M/Ts instead of buying new rubber.

Softer compound than the m&h. But idk how much of an advantage that is over the m&h. Right now I'm having problems with my MT peeling back. Even after a good burnout they won't smooth themselves out the rubber just keeps rolling up and you can feel and hear it down the track
People keep saying softer compound is better, etc? On what basis does that make it better. There's so much more to compound on the tire design. There are different plys on sidewall that change each tire sizes' characteristics. Size to size makes so much difference too. Each tire is made differently from a 22 to a 26".
I'm going to admit I'm more biased in buying an M&H for personal reasons, but I'm not counting out the performance of the M/T since we've had experience with those in the past as well. I try to look at in both sides in that both have been succesful at the track.
I sold to a customer a set of the 25x8.7MH who was a long time 24.5MT fan and his first pass was a 1.52 60ft with the tire. It averaged out in the 1.5s for a whole season.
In the end, I dont think one brand walks over the other. You just have to see which one works best for you.

One thing I just remembered. The M&Hs feel more stable. The sidewalls are so soft on the M/Ts, my car would pull to the right (battery and tranny on the right?) until the tire stood up. With the M&Hs, it goes straight regardless.
