1989 Honda Civic Si/Best motor?/Your opinion will be appreciated!
With anything but d series you gotta do all the mounts and stuff too, after mounts, trans, engine, ecu, and all your fluids, wiring, etc..you'll be pushing 2k/+..then you don't have near as much to make your HP goal as easy, granted you start with more HP, u wouldn't really have enough for let's say a good turbo kit. A good mini me or my choice..zc sohc vtec..if u must have vtec. Either would be a fine candidate. Zc might be harder to find some parts, but the specs are decent for a drop in motor. And it'll be easier to find some things for the d series, haven't seen any b equipped vehicles in my local salvage yard, and only one prelude/h22, which was stripped of everything.

Thanks for the tips everyone!
h22 eye catcher 200hp if right one is put in price 4k+, B serie as common swap if money is really invested the right way you could get away with only spending 2700 minimum, D series cheapest way for a good 120-130hp swap with vtec stock or with a cam or boost 2500 at least im building a stock z6 for my 89 im in about 1500 in and almost done. the only swap that will produce that much hp is a semi stock b18c, a stock H22 from a 99 and up Lude sh, or a tuned with boost b16, but with the D series if you want those numbers need to replicate bisimoto's wagovan which is a lot of $ but i prefer D due to easy affordable for a stock one and you eliminate one big thing in the process obd-0 to 1 conversion
Dont care too much for vtec other than its advantages for having a better flow than non vtecs, but if you got the money then do a gsr longblock with a b16 trans. More torque than a b16 plus the gsr head flows beeter than the b16 as well. Then you still have $ for upgrades.

if you don't want turbo... try getting a good deal on a b18
here's one http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30008
then get some motor mounts. hasport, or just ebay mounts, whichever.
shorten a DA integra shift linkage
90-93 integra axles
b18a transmission (maybe there is a better one for you somewhere)
convert to OBD1
wire up vtec.
180hp.
Then boost it in the future, upgrade internals, whatever
it's a good platform to start with.

Bah - LS1's are over rated... LSX that baby and now we are talking.
Vin Diesel - "I bet a LSX would pull a premium on race day."
If we all drove cars because of the way they sounded we would be driving stroked small blocks with 600-700 lift cams in them.
I would go LS-T all day for your budget, VTEC is sooo over rated. I still prefer an old school SBC any day though.
You know what they say - "Once you go turbo, you don't need crack."

Thanks for all the info and opinions guys. What do you think about doing a mini me z6 head swap on the stock d16a6 block and running 6-8 pounds of boost? Would it be worth it? How much hp think it would dish out?

I had to read and figure out why vtak is over rated. Never had a build that made me think twice about vtaking.
Great benefits to a N/A motor and no big deal on a low to mild turbo build.
However, when it's a big boost build that actually needs a cam to gain some control over flowing that boost properly, vtak actually introduces negative effects.
Hey can anyone help me out i have an 89 civic crx Hb and i cant find my transmission bolt so i can change my fluid.. i realize its on the transmission but which bolt if someone could pull up a diagram thatd be great
