Default V-Band Clamp - How tight should it be?

Using a 3" V-band setup for my downpipe and was wondering how tight should the bolt on the clamp be to make a good seal? Any torque down numbers?

Torque isn't that important, but what I do is snug them up, then tap around the clamp with a rubber mallet, then tighten up the clamp again. It helps ensure a good bite and even clamping force.

Ya I read on several forums that tapping around it with a mallet as you tighten it, helps make a better seal. I loosened the clamp and tried this method and wow it worked! No more leaky

If the flanges are not male/female specific, rtv gets the job done. But race parts solutions has some of the nicest vbands that are male(with oring) and female.
