Default low/high idle

I could not find another thread w/ my problem.

So here goes. I have a 92 accord that I keep pouring money into.
My most resent problem is when in park the idle goes up and down 1000 rpm to o rpm then up and down and so on until I put it in gear then all is ok....
Any ideas?????

Thanks Brett

That would also be known as a surging idle. There are a few threads covering this topic in the FAQ, from adjusting your FITV, how to clean your IACV and/or the air boost valve to cleaning the EGR ports & throttle body.

Basic stuff to look for is a vacuum leak, broken vacuum hose or leaking gasket on the intake manifold &/or throttle body. Another thing to look at is your coolant level, an air bubble in the coolant system can also cause these sorts of issues. dirty IACV air boost valve or the FITV being out of adjustment could also be the cause.

As mentioned there are topics in the FAQ that cover all of these common issues.

Good luck

Check all of the above first. If those do not pan out, then start checking all of the emission sensors. Brett Pindell
