do it how ever you want its all the same just different looking pics.
you line the cam gear with the word up facing up and both the lines even with the top of the head
then set your white dot on the crank pully to lined up with the marks on your timing cover
slide your timing belt on and adjust it to tite with the adjuster.
put the cover back on and drive your car.
every set of pics up there say to do that nothing different. its just the first honda pic showes it the clearest.

No guys, read it carefully. Pic 1 is for SI. Pic 2 has HF/DX and SI, Pic 3 is the same - DX/HF and 1.6 SI..Just showing what mis-information provided even by the factory..

the second pic is for vtec engines. o/p, you align the two lines up with the head and the lone white mark on the crank pully with the timing pointer then put the belt on

I dunno, I posted the cover of the manual. Civic Coupe CRX. Was for 1988 models. The manual only shows 2 engines. SOHC D16A6 and DOHC D16A8/9.
Here's the spec page:

That should make it abundantly clear.
And as to being Vtec - here's the spec page that the manual I took image 2 from covers:

And as you see, No Vtec models. Note:D16Z2 = D16A6.
It is just odd that the factory would issue such information. If I timed my d16A6 the same in image one, it would run like steamed turd..
