Default Need help choosing engine.

I'm having trouble deciding what engine to put in my 88 crx. My choices are between a b16, b18b1, and a d17a1.

D17A1??? LMFAO - Kid go search Google for a few hours and then come back. You gave us nothing to go off of... What are your end goals??? What do you want the car to be?

I would say none of those to be honest. B16A at first drop in is obviously better then those u posted, but the b16 is still slow to me. If i were you i would just save my money and get a gsr swap not too much more and is alot stronger.

They r pricey, but a lil craigslist shopping will cut the cost and u find alot of good aftermarket parts too. A b16 is a good choice if you have never owned a swap ride then just go b16. There alot of fun then later on you can upgrade the block like a b20 with pistons or b18a1 or b1 with pistons. then u will really enjoy, but try a b16.

I would take as b18a or b over a b16 any day. I think there slow.doing a b18a o b will eliminate the fact that your gonna need to wire in vtec all together. A ls motor is going to be less hassel. But I do agree nevasatisfied. You need to figure out a goal for your car. Is it for looks, play, race, auto cross? Do you wanna go fast? Do you care how hard the swap is? Alot of things you need to address first. And. The ask for help

What are you looking to get this car for drag racing? Circuit? I can tell you B16 swap will get you basically an rsx type s when it comes to speed i kept up with one from 0-100 with my b16 civic

Ive smoked plenty of ls swapped civics in a b16 rex and hatch even some type s's. Not too difficult to swap and the wiring isnt too bad. Now slap cams in that b16 with your basic bolt ons with a chipped or tuned ecu and itll move. Whats good about a b16 is that the compression is perfect where its at and there domed top pistons which helps when adding cams, ls's dont. Yea vtec is over the top now which is y i stay d16a6 lol, but with a lil bit of nitrous in 2nd gear and on its all good.

You can achieve anything with any motor with the right money. There are d16's running 8's. Depends on your exact goals if you are looking to play with people on freeways B16 is better then the B18A/B stock that is. If you are looking for more then that then you will need to turbo or build it from block up...

Don't listen to this kid he clearly lacks knowledge. Only B16B's have dome pistons - All other B16's have flat top pistons. Also as always - how a B16 responds to a upgrade matters heavily on the generation it is (as in the same cam will improve each motor differently).

Here you go - the best bet to be a quick street car -

Stock B18A/B preferably B
Stock LS Transmission with upgraded clutch
Turbo running around 15 psi

With the right tuner you can be around 300whp and 250wtq all day safely on pump gas. The longer gears will help you for a street car and stay in boost longer (especially highway pulls). Although I don't recomended street racing. Also the trans matches the stock LS rev limit better than a short geared trans (B16).

Yes - this motor can handle this PSI - it's not the same as any other B-series if you ask why then you are a n00b. If you want to run more timing then obviously the boost will be lower and the motor won't last as long.

To get this build up and going you are looking at about $3-5k depending on what you do - saying you did want to do it right. You can hack it up for under $2k for everything.

If you want to hear VTEC all the time and not go anywhere then get a B16 - If you want to Hear VTEC and chirp tires go B18 - If you want to be fast get away from naturally aspirated Hondas as fast as you can and slap some forced induction on it.

I have built every B-series there is both N/A and Turbo even have ran a couple Dart blocks. I wasted a lot of money to figure out what I liked best or what was the best bang for the buck. I think every kid should start out with a LS-T, but I have to warn you - BOOST IS LIKE CRACK!

I'm thinking about going with the b18b because I've seen so many around here at the salvage yards

Ls is the best way to go. If your choosing between b16 and b18. The ls has a much better block. Its the best motor to Turbo stock. Or you could do ls vtec and have the best of both worlds

LS VTEC requires tuning to run right and the B18A/B is probably the worst Honda block.

How bout you stop asking these super super repeated questions and search. Its obvious from these questions that you are not personally going to do the swap so add up labor costs with your parts bill. Plus,There are a million answers in the all motor forum. There are even freaking dyno sheets. Interested in boost, check out the forced induction forum. You need to educate yourself on this.

I had the same issue in deciding what my CRX motor to go with after my SOHC-ZC just gave up after getting abused with 65-Shots of NOS....lol But I've owned LS,B16A and they are good in what plans u have for it.....to make a long story short i went with a JDM B18C Type-R and it's nice LSD tranny and good power ONLY if u have the $$$.....SEARCH around and Study things first......

Amen - I can't believe for a generation that grew up with computers, these kids are this retarded. Not only that but this kid is posting in the 0ld Sk00l section where everything has been done from D15B2's to 350 SBC's... I tried being nice, but now this kid is really starting to jerk me off.
