Icon2 Looking for a reputable ECU replacement company

Hi folks,

Newbie here with a stock 1998 Accord LX, automatic, security system. Folks at the repair shop want 1450.00 to replace the ECU. They only use new Honda parts and I think thats extreme for a car that old. I am looking into all avenues of replacement such as buying one on ebay and getting the vin done at the dealer. I also noticed you can get them repaired third party. Is there a recommended way to go, is there a shop that is better than the others?

Thanks in advance,

Wayne

Ebay or local junk yard ECU and have the Immobilizer reprogrammed for your Accord by the dealer or if I remember correctly there are some third party (towing) companies that can re-program/flash them as well. May be a good idea to call around first.

Just out of curiosity, What did the folks at the shop say was wrong with your ECU?

They said it was spitting out bad codes. Something about replacing the Crankshaft sensor with a good one and getting the same bad code.

That's not a very common issue with Honda ECU's. Did they tell you what code it is that they were getting? Did they say anything about testing the wire harness?

I have a analyzer which gave me a P1382. They didn't give me the the code but they said the put in a substitute part and that they got the same code back.

Is the harness test difficult (I don't think they did that)?

Thanks for the help.

DTC P1382 is for a no signal in the CYP sensor (Cylinder Position sensor). It is located inside the distributor. They didn't have to replace the sensor/distributor to test the sensor. If they had done a simple resistance test on the CYP sensor that would have told them if it was bad or not.

Testing the wires/harness for the CYP sensor is fairly easy. It's actually the second step in troubleshooting this issue. It's a simple continuity test on the two wires.

Try looking at this guy. He offers a lot of reputable used ECU's.
Not trying to advertise or anything, just saying. Ive bought a number of stuff from him before, and he seems legit.
