Default 98 accord, no rev limiter?

I bought a 98 v6 accord recently, and this weekend was showing it off to friends, and ended up going to about 8.5-9k rpm.

Can anyone offer an explanation for this? Plan on taking it to the shop asap so maybe they'll be able to tell me.

Also how strong are the transmissions in these cars? How much to rebuild one if it went out?

Thanks.

Not sure about the rev limiter on that gen Accord. However, I do know that the 6th gen (98-02) V6 J series transmissions are very problematic. Probably the weakest transmission Honda/Acura has ever produced. Prices for rebuild will vary. Call around to your local transmission shops for prices on a rebuild. I'm sure there has to be a local shop that has seen a few of them.

i have to agree with ghost ive worked on a few 6th gen with the v6 trans and they are always slipping or grinding it seems like.

but on a good note if you have the time and resources i would look into doing a Acura cl 6 speed trans swap i hear that this is a wicked combination and if anyone has one near me i would appreciate i ride?

A CL 6spd swap would be the best way to go for sure!

yeah its kind rough 1-2 2-3 but hard to notice. I've never really done anything beyond the most basic car repairs/maintenance, am i right in it being pretty much impossible for me to do that?

I got a price from a local recommended transmission shop for a rebuild $950. Should i go ahead and rebuild asap or run her until she goes? Another quoted 22, another 25 for new.

btw i paid 3200 for this car, was wrecked in the front, dont think anything mechanical was damaged so i dont really care about that. has 114k miles. KBB quoted me 4k so i figure if i only have to pay 950 for the tranny and it will last me till 200k or so then that will be exactly what i want. only needs to get me through 2 maybe 4 years of college.

Give me your opinions please i like discussing and learning anything i can.
