Default No BAR sticker with stock exhaust, cops??

This may sound like a dumb question but how many of you guys out there get pulled over with stock exhaust and get your hoods popped?? I used to get pulled over every once in a while with my greddy evoII exhaust but now have converted back to stock exhaust and cops dont even look my way. My problem is that my 99' GSR motor has had the vin plate removed and therefore I cant BAR the motor. Do you guys think its safe to drive around normally with stock exhaust? Or is it worth 300 bucks to get a bare GSR block with vin number on it and swap over the internals so I can BAR the motor? Heres a pic of how my car looks it doesnt grab to much attention especially with stock exhaust now.

Did you get/buy the GSR like that? Or did you buy the car with that motor in there? Also swapping the internals over is not that simple. You have to get new piston rings, hone the walls, and get new bearings. You dont just take the internals from one block and throw them into another block. While that might technically work, God knows how long it will last. And your rings will never seat right.

Yes i bought the GSR motor and realized it had no vin later on. I know cops might assume its stolen but there is absolutely no way they can prove it because with no vin they cannot identify what car it came out of.

And I sure am aware that it is not the most easy thing to do but right now i already have the head off and i am already in the process of changing piston rings and honing the block that i have. I am replacing rod bearings and it would only cost slightly more to replace main bearings as well. The difficulty of changing the internals is absolutely not the problem. My question is, is it worth the extra 300. I mean i have a stock exhaust now so is it likely they pull me over and make me pop my hood if i dont have modified exhaust and will be driving normally?

Your probably rocking a stolen motor :/ ... Id buy a block if your already planning on changing rings and re honing and stuff anyhow.

Im not worried if its a stolen motor cus cops normally do not get down on the ground to look at the vin plate. Its really hard to see especially with the header in the way. Plus pre 96 motors dont even have vins on them and I seriously do not think the cops in northern california are smart enough to see the tiny holes where the rivets were. The question is is it likely i get my hood popped with stock exhaust? Cus if its not likely to get busted I wouldnt bother getting a different block.

Don't they need a warrant to search look under your hood? Stock exhaust tells them probably no mods so they don't bother. I would spend the 300 bucks and get it bard, then you will know that you have nothing to worry about.

if your not driving stupid or racing through traffic i say you should be good. usually the more stock you look/sound is always better. just be careful with that hot motor.

Yeah i know some cops know hella about imports but I seriously dont think they will look at the vin. Ive only heard of them running block numbers. They do usually need a warrant but they can say they have probable cause but the thing is they usually get that with exhaust and since i have stock they shouldnt have probable cause. I think it would be bullshit if they made you pop the hood by just the appearance of the vehicle. Since i already will have the block apart i might consider getting another block with vin. Do you guys know if BARd motors go thru the dmv?? like will it be on my registration and will cops know that i have a BARd motor when they run my plates?

well im pretty sure they match your vin to your car's registration showing it has a different motor in it, but when cops pull you over and your engines bard you'll have the bar sticker on your car and just show them that and they cant do nothing but walk away haha.

Yeah but i dont want cops to run my plates and make me pop the hood to make sure everything is still CARB legal and ****. I hate these laws here in cali like im sure most of us do. I just dont think they will pull me over and make me pop the hood once i got the front plate back on. Especially with stock exhaust and im not as slammed as some people. Just barely tucking 195 55 15 tires

Yeah i agree you might get away with it. But just think about this. Say you do end up getting busted, your **** gets taken away, or what ever they do... None the less you would have too re do everything into a new block. Why not just go ahead and do it, while your rebuilding it.

They might but my GSR tranny doesnt have vin because its a 95'. My main point is how can they prove the engine is not a pre 96 and thats why it doesnt have a vin on it

It's not going to be up to them to prove it's stolen. It will be up to YOU to prove that it is NOT. Hope you have receipts!

I have the bill of sale where the guy says he give me ownership over the b18c1 with that block number. And i believe you are wrong in the US its innocent until proven guilty. The burden is on the prosecutor not the defendent.

honestly itll cost some money but bar the car for piece of mind, and itll up the value of the car a bit too. But if you just wanna drive it cops dont even bother if you have a stock exhaust because thats how they catch you is by saying oohhh well this is modded so he probably has some illegal **** under the hood which in all honesty is correct 99 out of 100 times. Ive been driving my ek hatch with a b20 swap for a year and a half and havent gotten pulled over (knock on wood) so as long as your not speeding or hitting people you should be good. also it helps to be white (no racial )

That's for court trials. Not for arrests. You're watching too much television. Cops pick people up for SUSPICION all the time. And if the previous owner stole the engine you're on the hook for receiving stolen goods. And that's even if you claim you didn't know.
