Default What are good materials to look for with manifold fabrication

I'm involved in a GB that uses Steel Schedule 40 pipe..Is that a good material? Will that be resistant to cracking or will I be buying a new one in a year. It seems pretty thick from the pictures but i just want to be sure. How does it compare to 304L Stainless Steel pipe? I'll go through with the GB cause the price is right but should I be ready to purchase again shortly if I go with the Steel Schedule 40 pipe?
