Default Gauge Cluster Removal ('89 CRX)

Last week I was asking for old clusters to make white faced gauges, through PMs I managed to get my hands on a working Si cluster to replace my HF cluster and I will hopefully mod it with white gauges. Anyway, I was thinking this morning... how do I remove/replace the cluster? I haven't bought a manual for the car since I usually just use the manual for engine stuff and since I have the ZC, most of a manual wouldn't help.

Please give me some intructions on correctly removing/replacing the gauge cluster in my '89 CRX and pics if you got them. Thanks.

first you need to remove the cluster cover.

there should be two screws under the cover, one on the left, one on the right (right under the rear defrost and dimmer switch). then there are two screws in the back near the winshield. they will be cover with a plastic cover. pop the covers off and unscrew them.

you will need to pop the dimmer switch and rear defrost switch out and unplug them. then you can remove the cluster cover.

there are 4 screws holdind the gauge cluster in place. remove the screws. reach around the back unplug, the 2 wiring harsness and the speedo plug and you should be set.

its a pretty simple job. i think someone on here has pics of the removal process.

yes, use a flathead to pop the little screw covers on the front of the guage cluster, you should see these through the windshield. then remove the four screws that hold the cluster to the mounting brackets, and unplug the speedo cable on the back right side. finally unplug the harnesses.

when removing the screws next to the windshield, be extra careful not to drop them... once you've done this a few times it's like a 3 minute job.

yes. watch out not to drop them, or they fall down in there and rattle around until they fall out. magnetic screwdrivers are a must.

On my way home from work yesterday I put my hand over the cover to feel for the screw covers and as I found them I pulled on the cover to realize that it doesn't seem to have any screws in it... this should be a very easy task. can't wait!
