Is tuning absolutely necessary after installing an aftermarket cam?
Hello everyone. I will be running a D16Z6 with the usual I/H/E setup and an aftermarket cam; nothing too crazy. I am leaning towards the Comp 59300 as I have heard a lot of good things about it. Now my question is, will I need any sort of engine management/tuning or an adjustable cam gear after I install the cam? From what I understand just dropping the cam in without any adjustments will cause the motor to run a little rich. Will it be so rich as to negatively affect performance and wear of the engine, or will it be alright? Mpg doesn't concern me too much. I have searched on here and over at dseries.org, but I haven't found any convincing answers. Also, I know a tune is always a good thing to do after cam work and can increase the true potential of the cam, but is it absolutely necessary? Thanks in advance for any replies.
our cars run off these things called ecu's. thats where the magic happens.
try doing a little reading on the stickys and google. then come ask away.
