Default D16Z6 engine

I have a 94 Honda civic si after a little bit of research i found out i have the D1 6Z6 engine. SOHC vtec. I Feel cheated though. Did they not yet have the DOHC vtec at that point? I though i read once that you could convert the heads and change the SOHC into the DOHC has anyone heard anything like that before. Also at 125hp compared to most of the others on that list in the 180s and 200ds. does this engine even have potential?
thanks, any input would be appreciated.

No you cannot put a dohc head on a sohc block
Dohc vtec motors only came in EM1 b16a2, DA B17a1, DC b18c1, EG2 B16a3, prelude H22, ITR b18c5. (these are all usdm models) in Japan eg6 came in the vti model which was a 1.5 liter d15b & SiR which came with a b16a. Unfortunately the EG never came with a dual cam In the states (why you ask? I have no idea) I mean the del sol got a b16a3 in either 94 or 95 idk exact year but I don't see why Honda didn't add it onto the civic for those years :'(

D16z6 is a pretty good motor reliable I've had a couple of buddy's have theirs over 250,000 miles as long as you maintain your vehicles vitals and take time to make sure everything's running right you'll be cool. Plus if your planning on building this motor just boost it unless your gonna get all bisimoto & do a full on sohc build

The OP asks his question and you feel he will be able to decipher your garbage response? Post the year, make and model of the chassis you are referring to

Remember there is the ZC that came in a dual cam. Yes there is a DOHC D series and IMO it is horrible. Y8 and Z6 are the best. Full bolt ons with a D series you won't even feel a power increase. Even the shortest geared D series are terribly long for the power they have. Mind you the Y8 trans is the shortest D series trans and has the same gearing as the LS which is the longest of the B series. Really the only hope if you insist on keeping a SOHC is to go boost. My friend had a fully built all motor D series, I think a stock LS would have ran side by side or beat it.
