I have a 95cx with a B20V swap. Randomly it wouldnt start but it was never that big of an issue because I would just turn the key a couple times or wait a few minutes and it would eventually start just fine. I thought it was the starter relay until I started to hear just the starter gear spin without engaging the flywheel. I began to think it was the solenoid. I removed the started to test it and inspect possible ground problems. I just bought the car and Im growing increasingly unimpressed with the previous owner's general mechanical and electrical knowledge as I had several main grounds that were loose(including the main batt. ground) I also applied a 12v power source to the starter with it out several times to see if it was hanging up or anything and it seemed fine so I put it back in and tightened all the grounds and it was completely fine for a couple weeks, until one day at work it just refused to start again. Does this sound like the relay or the starter? I really hope it isnt the starter since Honda starters are so expensive and I already feel ripped off but thats what I'm leaning towards.

Yeah it runs just fine, Im just trying to figure out whether its the starter or the starter relay.

 

if the starter is spinning and not engaging, it its usually the starter
