BUILD THREAD of my 1st honda
I bought this car around a month ago. Car was bone stock with the exception of a d15b8 (why I'm not sure) and 17" wheels. So far I've installed Eibach springs and Koni adjustable struts (reds)
95 civic DX 5 speed
no tach WTF?
the car has a lot of small dings (possible hail damage) so I purchase a new hood from Dave at B&W Auto Salvage and new front and rear bumper skins from Gordon at Custom Works. Both places gave me AWESOME prices.
The d15b8 and it's INSANE 70 hp was boring to say the least. So, more power is going to be a must.
That's when I came across a B18B and GSR tranny to put in her.
I've torn down the head, replaced the bent dowel pins and had it surfaced to get rid of a few light scratches.
My ARP head studs and ARP rod bolts came in today. UPDATE 03/19/11 ARPS ARE INSTALLED
I did NOT resize my rods and we'll see what happens. I don't believe that 26 lb pounds will distort the shape of the rod.
I hope I'm not wrong. All head studs are in. They were a lot quicker to do than the rod bolts LOL
The swap didn't include an exhaust manifold so why not go turbo (that's only logical right? )
I picked up a top mount for it now I need to find a turbo

Re: BUILD THREAD of my 1st honda
new water pump and timing belt installed.
I1 and E1 cam caps both have a bolt that's pulling threads. Was only able to torque to about 50 in lbs. Hopefully this doesn't become a problem.
New 170 degree thermostat, cam seals and v/c gasket, alternator and belt, tapped oil pan all installed.
will stab dizzy when I figure out which is #1
me working on it in my pajamas

Re: BUILD THREAD of my 1st honda
I would love to go vtec later on and probably will.
Do you guys think the top mount is a waiste at only 10 psi or less? I'm thinking I should sell it and buy a cast instead. OPINIONS PLEASE

Re: BUILD THREAD of my 1st honda
For 10psi or less I would say the top mount is overkill. I would keep it though because just like many others who boost a car, once you get a boost controller you will be become boost hungry and will most likely find yourself cranking up the boost past your original boost levels that you had in mind. Well thats what happened to me at least. lol.

Re: BUILD THREAD of my 1st honda
replaced the stock pump today with a 255lph from HIGH FLOW FUEL
they have flow charts from RC that show them outflowing a walbro. MEH, we'll
give it a shot.
wish every pump was as accessible as this

Re: BUILD THREAD of my 1st honda
^ agreed. I'm more concerned with getting the swap done before I worry about the wheels. THEY ARE NASTY.
Will be putting some 15"s on it as soon as it's running good on the swap. BTW: I manage a tire store so beleive me, it's been driving me NUTS. I look at catalogues all day thinking about which way to go when I'm ready to pull the trigger.

That build looks like it is coming along great. Don't bother downgrading from the top mount. We ALL know how addictive boost is, and you will regret getting rid of it when you start looking to see 15-20 psi
