Default 88 Prelude transaxle clicking in 2nd

88 4WS Si, 5 spd manual

This noise started in 2005 and both axles were replaced, including bearings and ball joints. The noise is still there and hasn't gone away. The car is in getting painted and when I get it back this week I'll do some more testing.

When turn to the right in 2nd gear there is a clicking sound, but it isn't like a bad CV joint. CV joints click differently when bad and almost clack. This sounds like the wheel of fortune going around. I only happens in 2nd and no other gear when turning right. The tighter the turn the louder it is and when driving straight it is there but not as audible.

Some have said the reverse fork has a spring that weakens that could be hitting the 2nd gear. In 2nd gear with the clutch engaged the rattle is still there.

The only other thing I can look at is the intermediate shaft, but I can't see it being that. I was able to duplicate the problem with the front end on jack stands and it appears to be the transaxle.

I'm stumped!
