Default Please dont kill me I DID search

I am probably getting ready to buy a msd 6al will also come with the external coil and possibly the cap for it also.
I am just curious about everyones thoughts on this whether they are good or bad...I have used a similar setup on my old CRX as well as on my old srt-4 and never had any problems with them AT ALL, the only problem I ever had with an MSD product was the msd coil pack I had on the srt-4 as it went out within a year

Just want to get your guy's thoughts on it

RIght now the car it is going in is a 92 eg CX hatch with a fully built GSR motor what was bored out to a 2.0 and then sleeved so I know my motor build is pretty much bullet proof as it sits right now but just like everyone else I am always looking for a bit more power

So any of your guy's thoughts would REALLY be appreciated

Thank you in advance

I dunno if you'll hear anyone say "no," but I'm not sure why you would want it. Allot of hp can be made on stock ignition.

OEM all day err day. The only upgrade I would do if your spending that kind of cash is coil on plug.

I agree with the statement above. If you're wanting to spend that kind of money you may want to look here.

^^that but even then your limited to your tuning options.

stock ignition is on most of the cars i see on here. no reason to spend that kinda bank on something that works fine originally.

There are folks running 500+ whp with stock OEM ignitions. I would invest that money towards a good engine management system. s300 aem ems. etc.

MSD = Garbage. I have never had any luck with their products on a Honda.

Lol I know nothing is ever really "bullet proof" I just meant that the engine is about as solid of a build as it could be unless I decide to drop another few grand

I think an aftermarket ignition system is a good idea even to keep some of the OEM internals from wearing prematurely (not even from a power perspective but from a use standpoint like, roadracing vs just street driving, or a higher compression engine over 12.0:1), but an MSD 6AL is a bit older school. I personally use the Mallory Hyfire Digital system. half the cost of an MSD, integrates well, digital so it can account more accurately for our little engines that make over 8000rpms, and it never seems to break. This is nice especially if don't have the ability to determine how hold the ICM and ignitor are in the distributor you currently have.

Nothing wrong with a bit of aftermarket spark. As long as it fits the purpose and need, I've never believed it is a wasted investment.

The distributor and ALL of the internals in it are brand spanking new in my car, they all have less than 200 miles on it, Plus I figure since the guy only wants 50 dollars for all the parts I mentioned how can I really go wrong you know?

LOL. In that case, I'd buy it and sell it to someone and make a bit of $$. I don't really think you'll see much (if any) benefit from the MSD 6AL.

And yeah I was thinking the same thing, I figure if I dont like it for whatever reason than I can always sell it and I am sure I can sell all of the items with it for more than I paid LOL

Nah. I don't think getting the MSD 6AL is worth it. Even for that price, if the other components are new.
