Default Need input on new hood, asap.....

Okay, tonight one of my friends backed into me and crunched up my hood. I need a new hood and i figured i might as well look at aftermarket ones because they will probably be cheaper and i can actually use it to my advantage for weight reduction and increased cooling. Here's the only thing.....the hood will be painted red, i don't want a carbon fiber hood on my red car (trying to keep somewhat sleeper) I'm not sure if you can paint carbon fiber or not, but either way, nothing too gaudy and something that will fit right. If you could post up pics, links, ANY input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

if you want weight reduction, get the CF hood, but paint it to match your car. ^_^ not sure how much the paint will weigh tho... lol

i never really paid much attention to mods like a hood because going faster was always my concern and i considered it more of a cosmetic mod. So.....I wasn't aware that you could paint a CF hood. I would really like pics and links so i can do some research. Thanks.

Mike, check out http://www.visracing.com , they a sell couple of mild looking vented carbon fiber hoods that would go well with a turbo motor. You can paint carbon fiber hoods. Adrenaline is a dealer for VIS, I wouldn't buy from them, but they can get them.

I know VIS makes gross body kits and stuff, but their hoods usually fit very well from what I have seen.

You might want to avoid aftermarket fiberglass hoods, they are very fragile.

CF hood is the way to go...I've heard you can get them painted, so just do that and your car can still look like a sleeper

hp.com was a really good place to find pics, but it's gone now of course.

You are right, VIS only makes one vented hood for the Prelude.

A new factory hood costs $272 plus shipping from hondaautomotiveparts.com

I have the aerogear hood and it is pretty ricey or wild or whatever, but it works perfect for my setup. Personally, it and the 1 piece headlights are all I really like on the front anyway but it's all on there already!!

I have a few more pics of the vents and whatnot, but they aren't on my server. I think the hood was around $320 shipped thru a special openning of some store like 2 1/2 years ago. I don't know what they run now tho. Good luck!!

ludespeeder, do you know aerogear's website or any dealer's sites? Thanks for the pic. It looks like it would be effective in cooling, but it is a little wild. How well does it fit and is it any problem in the rain? Thanks for the replies, keep 'em coming.

EDIT: Anybody have any pics of the VIS painted or unpainted? Also, is there anybody else who makes a hood for the 4th gen, help me.

i can't buy a hood without a website, so if you could post websites or pictures that would be great. I can make the decision on my own. Thanks.

Thanks Firedrake, where did you get that from, how much and which model number is that on VIS's website. Is that the OEM style XGT? Also what does the OEM style VS hood look like? Thanks.

I got it through a company gxcinc.com Gen X Customs, total price was something like $550 shipped. They got it out to me quick, but it was missing one of the vent grates......they're hopefully sending me one right now though....

http://www.aerogear.net/ plus I think companies like nopi or Summitt or Ultra Performance can get just about any hood you want. Maybe try Options auto Salon..? The hood fit fine BTW, I didn't have to do any cutting or nothing. I did have to adjust the brackets like 15 times before it lined up right, but I think it was because I didn't have anybody helping me hold the SOB up. It came with the gelcoat and it had the factory latch and everything!!

Drake your lude is FOCKING SWEET!!! I love that hood, and the WW big mouth was what I was gonna get if I couldn't find the andy's kit in urethane. sweet *** ride man.

Vis makes a oem style CF hood as does aerogear and there are a few others.I had "nopi" brand cf oem hood.It was really light but did not fit great. Also the finish was not that good so it was perfect for painting,Now i have the vis with the single vent which looks awesome but weighs about twice as much as the past CF hood but still lighter than stock.
Firedrake,we have the same taste cause i have the same lights, body kit and vis hood except the single vent. Its good to know great minds think alike.

Thanks for the compliments everyone It'll eventually be fast, but I keep running into problems with various parts of my turbo setup.....
It's missing the vents up front right now because I need to install that whole piece that the vents attach to and haven't had time to do it yet.....it's got the Wings West bigmouth kit on it, which IMO is the best kit for the 4gen (and it's urethane )
str8rcn, you should post a pic! Quiklude's prelude is almost a twin to mine too, but he's got the OEM CF hood

I would post a pic but right now i am staring at most of the parts sitting on the balcony. The hood is on but i need to paint the car.I refuse to paint the car until all of the mechanical things are perfect.Going back to the dyno in a couple of weeks and hoping for 200 at the wheels.
