How many o2 sensors are in a 1996 civic ex?

some people are telling me only one in the header and that only other models have the secondary .


Can anyone confirm this and the locations of the primary sensor, and a secondary if i do have one ?

All 96+ OBD2 will have at least two o2 sensor. Since your Civic is a 96 4 cylinder it has two.

 

Two O2 sensors.

 

first one....in the exhaust manifold
2nd one...bottom....right after your cat conv.

youll see em...they both have 4 wires coiled in a cable coming out of em

 

For my 00 EX coupe, the primary plugs into exhaust pipe A and the secondary plugs into the top of the cat.





However, some D16Y8s apparently do have the primary plugged into the exhaust manifold.

probably 96-97 ex have it in the mani...like all y7...
and 99-00 ex's have it down further.

 

Possibly, although the D16Y7 and D16Y5 are a bit different:

 

two 02 sensors
- one is upstream(located before the cat)
- one is downstream(located after the cat)

 

thank you all (: i beleive mine is the older layout with the primary in the exhaust manifold,

can a o2 malfunction without giving any CEL's? and is both recommended to change at the same time o.O?
