Ok so i have bought a 1995 honda civic ex vtec with 175k on the motor, for me and my son to make a tuner car. When i got it it needed a water pump, and of course doing that required timeing belt. So we replaced both things, after doing that we also replaced the spark plugs, wires,cap, rotor, thermastat, and coolant. Well now when we start it it has a slight miss and when you drive after about 4 thousand rpms, it will start to puff out lgiht blewish black smoke, I noticed that the temp sensor that turns the fan on does not work so i had to by pass it with a paper clip so that the vehicale would not overheat. My question is did i blow the head gasket or am i missing something, there is no water in the oil, i got the time done to the t, with a gun, im stuck. pls pls help

 

Check your timing.

 

-double check timing marks... make sure ur not off a tooth...
-are u losing coolant and shows no sign of leaks(if so... blown head gasket, cracked head or block)
-most likely you have worn piston rings hence the blewish black smoke(oil slipping pass rings and burning in the combustion chambers) common with honda motor with pretty decent amount of miles
-as far as the fans not coming on another common problem me personally have a hot wire ran from the ran to my ignition wire so the fan runs all the time when the car is on(had this setup for about a year with no problems) or simply replaces the fan switch located on the thermostat housing

Your mechanical timing is likely off by one tooth on the timing belt. When that issue is resolved, check the ignition timing and bleed the cooling system.

Bleeding the cooling system may take 20-30 minutes:

1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.

2) Push the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat.

3) Follow the directions in the diagram below (hint: the bleed bolt is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine):
