ok i race my 98 prelude on dirt track in the fwd class, now i wanna try the super rwd class but there are tons of rules and its dominated by 4cylinder mustangs so i wanna try bringing a honda into the mix, but the the one major rule is its gotta be a sohc motor and its gotta be carb. is it possible to convert the f22 to carb, theyre gonna let me fabricate my intake to do this but i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas, and the motor is going into a honda s2000 chassis, before anyone gets upset about the s2000 i bought it at salvage auction with no motor or trans and gutted. If i can get it to work i would like to run a f22 or f23 with maybe a f22 head and a bisimoto cam with some high compression pistons.

 

Weber side draft carbs would be good for what you want to do.

 

Switching to carbs would probably be the easy part. Wouldn't the hard part be finding a RWD trans to work with the F22/F23? I've never done the swap or really read anything about it. However, I do know that the F22/F23 both rotate counter clockwise as apposed to the F20/F22C that rotate with the "normal" clockwise rotation. Just putting that out there. There very well could be transmissions or a RWD adapter available by now.

how much modification does this class of racing allow? if the track you race at has a rulebook available maybe online that would help us to help you.

 

im gonna use a bert transmission and i have in order to run in the rwd class the car also has to have a solid rear axle, which will help because i can use a ford and run a set of reverse pinion gear set to let rear wheels turn the right way because of the reverse rotation, i wanna keep the independant rear suspension but for now i have to play by there rules and this is the only way to get hondas foot in the door for dirt track racing up here, rules are basically aimed towards the mustang chassis car must have solid rear axle, sohc motor, no fuel injection, can run racing shocks or springs, motor can be bore .40 over can run high compression pistons, any cam, but the carb is limited to the holley 4412 2bbl, anything else goes

An option for your ignition will be to use an OEM distributor housing and a MSD box. There's a way you can rig the OEM distributor to send signal to the MSD for ignition. I know DonF did that with the setup he built for some guys running at Bonneville. It was a carb'd de-stroked B16. So, I'm sure the principles will translate for you.

It is pretty simple. You just need to gut the inside of the distributor and use the 2 wires coming from the rotor inside and use them for the magnetic pickup on the MSD. I have always done it that way.

Yeah..he told me briefly how he did it, but my knowledge didn't go any farther than that. So, couldn't really speak any deeper on the subject...just that I had knowledge of someone that actually did it...not a friend of a friend of a friend or any of that nonsense.

This sounds like an interesting project.

 

Just need to run the stock CYP sensor from the F22/F23 distributor.
