Welcome to my eg sedan build thread

Being so near to completing my original project, a 91 CRX I have been considering what I could do next. I knew I liked the look of the EG sedan and it's one of the civics we don't have yet. After driving my dad's turbo street car I knew I wanted that spooling, shuttle launch, plaster your face in the seat turbo feel, but I know I don't really have the budget to make that much power.

Originally the engine that is now in my CRX was in an EG sedan, we got a good deal on the whole setup and took the two cars over to Speedfactory in Washington to get the swap done and tuned. So for nearly one entire year we've had a sedan shell with no engine just sitting in our yard.



The car, dubbed the 'no door', has some quirks but over all the body is pretty straight, it has some weird spots but for this project it's a good start.

Just recently I saw this EG online



I thought to myself 'Wait one moment, this car has the doors and interior that could go into the no door and be a pretty nice start to that turbo project car. All I need is an engine of some sort, but what could it be?'

Then this litle gem shows up



I had been studying a little on the d series engines and knew this car had a Y8 in it, I had to have it.

So two deals and 500 miles later we have a trailer that looks like this

So now we have 3 cars, which are reffered to as follows:

We start off by getting the EG running to make sure we have something to maybe sell to trade later on.



Got a new radiator and hoses on an it fired up first try. Drove it down to the carwash, put alittle scrub on the engine and brought it home. The auto trany feels AMAZING, like new, I've never driven a honda auto but this felt just as smooth as the tranny in my 06 chevy.

Now on to some of the EK specs. I drove around the EG with the d15 in it and it was surprisingly spunky. I can't imagine how much better it will feel with a d16 vtec, let alone a turbo setup on that too.

Starting the strip down, it has to start somewhere, interior is that place I suppose.





It's a good thing this body is getting the boot, no one should have to deal with this wonky repair action.







I was waiting the whole time for the SRS to explode all over my face



This fender was ok, the driver side was smashed though. Have a clean set on hand, no sweat.



Thought the passenger head light made it through the wreck but alas I was tricked.

 

Found this in the car, worked out pretty well since I lost my old brush. It's an official Bob Barker tooth brush, great find.



Nasty bay paint, I don't know if the old owner didn't clean or didn't scuff or what the deal was, but it looks terrible.



For only $7 this can be fixed



Also painted over the brake lines, this isn't a show car or anything so I'm going to leave it painted.



One coat on the left and the stock look on the right. Absolutely cleaner, just have to clean the steering rack and suspension bits.



Mocking up the front end with the new fenders and a used bumper we had sitting around. The lights are just temporary, until I can find a factory set.



That's the progress I made this weekend. I like the idea of taking 3 cars past their prime and cast away and bringing them to at least some kind of finish. If you see any parts you want shoot me an offer on or any parts I need just PM me, I'm trying to put this build together with lots of elbow grease and little cash so I need to sell a lot of spares.

In the coming weeks I want to drop in the engine and interior and eventually get the whole car painted the factory color. There is still a lot of work to do to get to the turbo d setup that's planned, as for now I'm just looking to put the engine in and drive it around NA and think about a turbo system with AC and PS, still have to read up on all that.

Good luck with the build, looks like a fun, intense project. Also, I hate to burst your bubble, but that sure as heck looks like a D16Y7 non vtec to me, have you checked the engine code?

good luck bro! and that ek is probably an LX... has the power lock and windows, and a d16y7 in it... the upright intake mani, and non vtec valve cover give it away

 

Looks like this build is taking a new direction. How did I not notice that its the non vtec? I guess I just 'told myself' it was a y8 and never thought about it again, it's a good thing you guys noticed. I know a guy in town with a b16, this car may be going DOHC as we speak.

Update: We thought about it long and hard and decided to keep the y7 for the car. You have to admit it would have been hilarious to have the wires ready to hook up the vtec and not be able to find the plugs, or the solenoid.

 

Subscribed... BOOST IT!

This is a surprisingly nice drving car as shown. I say don't worry about the vtec head for now. Could just as easily re-grind the stock cam to the vtec profile and have the same power output (all things considered.) Don't let something small like that get in the way of a fun build.

Stock D series motors are throw aways. blow a few of them up and then we'll boost a B and stuff in there.

According to James at the Speedfactory. A budget boosted stock D is gonna be in the 200-220whp/180-200tq. That's a mess of fun, just roll with it! I'm still of the opinion that anything over 300whp on the street on street tires is just silly. BUT, it's silly fun! I think 200tq is a total win for a budget build direction.

Factory g73m Opal Green Metallic, it looks really inconspicuous plus the jambs are already painted. I just can't decide whether to paint the trim/handles to match the body.

i think you shouldn't color match it all the black really offsets the green nice i think with it all green it will look to green it needs to be broken up a bit

 

Here's what I've been up to. There was a huge flood out here just recently so I've been cleaning out a building for the last week, put me back a few days on the build and the engine deal still isn't sorted out. All I know is that the car WILL have a turbo on it, but the engine could be anything, d/b/h/k/a/r/n/p/q/e or something .

Got the power window/lock harness out of the auto car.



Broke the crap out of the heater core trying to get it out.



I'm most of the way to starting a chop shop.





Now out with the old and in with the new



Starting a swimming pool to go with my chop shop.



I wasn't pleased with the photos all the point and shoot cameras were taking so I finally bought my own digital camera. It looks like this, and I have no idea how to run it.



Got the sub harness for the doors in.





The B pillar didn't have the hole to run the connector through so I had to do it by hand.



Here's the color tag in case something bad happens.



Like the trunk so far.









Hooked up the switch and hung the driver door to check the windows, mirrors, and locks. Worked with no problems first try.



Last thing I got around to was trying to mount the seat, it was seriously bent. Little bit of muscle fixed it right up though.





I wanted to test fit the seats, but this washer is missing



When I get free time I'm going to check our parts cars. Anyone have the Honda number on that piece? All the blow ups for the rear seat I could find are way too small to find. Maybe it's the same piece as an EF hatch? We have a ton of those.

 

If it's what the fans want I think he's booked up for interviews through this week. Hopefully I can get some photo ops by the weekend.
