I guess you could consider this a spin off thread from this one:

Anyways ive been thought 4 cars so far all civics and integras with my last one being a quick little pocket rocket butt, its time for a change.
Some cars ive thought of to get the ball rolling, im open to any suggestion, keep in mind it will be a daily driver and slowly modded as i go, and id love a car with alot of aftermarket support (the IS300 can be similarly made into a "supra sedan")
My budgets about $8-9k and my only preferences are:
it has to be sedan, manual, leather interior, rwd or awd ONLY no fwd's, nothing older than 1999/2000.
1999-2005 E46 BMW 3 series
2001-2005 Lexus IS300
2001-2006 Subaru Impreza
Any other suggestions?

if i had your budget i would get the is300 or and bmw e39 5 series.
both of which are hard to find here in decent shape and a manual trans. maybe you can have better luck finding one where you are

I have an IS300 right now and it's pretty nice for a daily driver and there's tons of mods available for it. I would also look into a 2005 Mercedes C230 Kompressor. 2005+ are the more reliable ones and I've seen some with 100k miles for like $11k so maybe you'll get lucky on your search. The C230 would be my first choice, then the IS300. I've owned both.

i just sold my civic and got a is300 and i love it so far their are lots of mods for it and they look super clean stick or auto only down side is gettin used to the gas mileage diff i pay like 60-70 buck to fill up from E-F
The e46 330i would be my choice, a ZHP if you can afford one. Stock performance is significantly better than anything else on the list (save for maybe accelleration with a WRX), it will be more refined with the nicest interior, and they get decent gas mileage.
The IS300 will probably be more reliable and cheaper to fix, but it's dynamically inferior to an e46, doesnt match the rest of Lexus' lineup in terms of interior quality, and they are pretty slow when stock.
