There are no Japanese coupes. Only sedans.

VIN: 1HGEM22134L070643
1hg = Honda of America
em2 = Coupe
2 = 2-door Coupe / 4-Speed Automatic
1 = DX
3 = Check Digit (doesn't matter)
4 = 2004
L = Factory Code for East Liberty, Ohio Factory, USA
070643 = Serial Number

trans code:
bmxa 8808301 4pmxaao
BMXA = 4-speed automatic
8808301 = 2004 transmission

==============================================

VIN: 1hgem22982L000822
1hg = Honda of America
em2 = Coupe
2 = 2-door Coupe / 4-Speed Automatic
9 = EX
8 = Check Digit (doesn't matter)
2 = 2002
L = Factory Code for East Liberty, Ohio Factory, USA
000822 = Serial Number

trans code:
bmxa 6007814 2pmx95
BMXA = 4-Speed Automatic
6007814 = 2002 transmission

You want the EX transmission. (the bottom one)

Is it safe to safe to say Vin codes starting with 1HG (American) uses the BMXA 4 speed transmission? Will a JDM 3 speed match up for a replacement to the 4 speed or is it not compatible due to mine being American made?

Any threads I’ve read say that a JDM trans will NOT work in a North American market car even if the transmission model says it’s the same. I got a bmxa from a parts car for my 02 which also had the bmxa and it was a direct swap and everything works.
