Default Timing Belt

New to the forum and yes this is my first post. I bought a 1991 Civic LX yesterday with 50,000 original miles. I don't have a service history on the vehicle and am not sure if the timing belt has ever been changed. If it is the original, does age matter? At what frequency does it need replaced?

Thanks!

I don't have a manual for your car, but the longest I have seen for a 90s Honda is 7 years. I'd replace it now.

Here's an interesting writeup on timing belts: http://www.aa1car.com/library/2003/us70343.htm

I wonder why no one ever made an aftermarket timing chain setup for Honda motors...

Thanks! I am not too far from you. Just relocated to Vacaville CA. Do you know any reliable/reasonable repair shops where I can get this done in this area?

Kenne Bell Cobra - nice. I just sold my '06 GTO that I bought new - already miss her.
