any differences between the 97 h22a4 and the 2000 h22a4??
reason I am wondering is because i have a 97 base lude, and I just bought a short block off of a 2000 lude for 250 bucks.. the only thing wrong with it is that one of the rod bearings is spun. No biggy, Im building this block with darton sleeves and all the goodies, but i just wanted to know if there are any differences between the two, thanks......
I beleave the exhaust was tuned better for the 98-up lude. Thats where they pulled the 10 HP out their ***

Yes, the bottom ends have been found to be different.
The later engines have thinner, lighter rods. They also have different size crank bearings. I want to say that the bearings are bigger, but I can't remember for sure.
I also recall hearing that the crank journals were a different size as well, which would mean that swapping cranks could be a problem.
Email user schwett from this board, he can give you better detail on all the little differences.

Its been speculated that the 5hp is purely on paper, bc I think thats when the accord came out with 200hp. They wanted to keep the prelude even in terms of power. If you check out dyno plots from 97 and 98 they are identical, depending on mods...
see guys I planned on building the bottom end on my 2000 h22a4 block, and then swap the head and other odds and ends off my 97 h22a4 block, that will all work right? And what does it matter if it was an sh, the blocks are still the same, that shouldnt have anything to do with it..
Hey guys, does anyone know schwetts email addy, i tried to IM him and it wouldnt let me..
Anyway, the thing i want to know is will what I plan on doing work, I have the 2000 block ripped down to the bear block, the crank is still good in my opinion, but i will have to have it checked and then polished. Ok, thats basically the only thing I am keeping in the 2000 block, the crank, oil squirters and the other basics that are in there, but other than that, thats it..(oh and oil pan) And I have the 97 block that im still using in my lude, but i want to take that out, and swap parts off of it and put them on the 2000 block, hopefully it will all work, the head off my old block also.. let me know, thanks

The heads can be interchanged between 97 and 00 just fine. That part will work.
However, the block from a Base Prelude and the block from a TypeSH Prelude are different. The TypeSH block will only mate properly to a TypeSH transmission. Likewise, a Base block will not work with a TypeSH transmission.
