it is and it's not.

Importing RHD cars is a big grey area. There are ways around the laws, and ways to do it legally. Legally, is typcially quite hard, and expensive for most cars.

The car very well could have a been a conversion. If so, Yes, that is legal. However, in some and most states you need to be careful when doing it. A lot of converted cars have been impounded in the past.

basically, if it's already here then it's legal.
the only way it's considered illegal is the process of importing a car over here since the register it is really difficult

yes it is legal. in california you must abide by all smog and state regulations to get registered and recieve a california license plate. the law has no authority to impound a right hand side drive vehicle for any reason beside that. if they did it would be illegal. keep in mind that california authorities have vehicle identification training to catch vehicles of this nature. so make sure you follow the proper registratiuon process. especially in cali...

Not true.

Just because the car is here, it doesn't make it legal. There are several RHD cars that I know of that aren't registered, and can't be.

You can get the car here, but that doesn't make the car legal.

Hell, I could have bought a 2000 CTR, but didn't because the only thing it could do was sit in my garage and look pretty.
