The fifth gear pops out when driving highway speeds. The faster I go, the sooner it happens. I have to hold it in place and can feel it pushing back when I accelerate. When I let up on the gas, it relaxes into gear. Driving an hour becomes a workout. The tranny guy said something about parts needing to be replaced for all five gears.

Any advice on cause or cost?

First check the level of the MTF. I have heard of 5th gear pop-outs when the fluid is low.

If the fluid is fine, it's likely time for a transmission overhaul. (or replacement)


How many miles are on it?
