Default Ideas to help run the car a little cooler.

Im looking for ideas to get the engine temps a little cooler. Right now it operates around 206/208 during normal street driving/idling. This is fine but I need to keep my heat on in the car to keep it from creeping up. Its not bad now because its not summer, but I wanna get this figured out before the weather gets really hot..

What should I do so that the heater/heater core doesnt need to be used?
Its still a street car, but its by no means a daily driver. Tracked as often as I can.

I have a 4inch DP and the turbo is water cooled.

Remove thermostat? Drill it out?

any ideas welcome

How close is your down pipe to your radiator? does the fan have a shroud around it for better airflow?

You could also run a 170 t-stat and have the fan comes on at 170 or so, stock t-stat are at 192 ish i believe.

Fan shroud and good fan are the first things to look into if you you don't aleady have them. By good fan i mean a 12" fan that can pull/push a $hit load of CFM.

downpipe is pretty close, but it is wrapped now..
the fan doesnt have a shrowd, its a slim fan that is wired to be a pusher.

I was thinking of wiring the fan to come on with ignition but I dont know if that will really help me much.

Also make sure there's an ample supply of air flowing through the radiator. I had that problem with my car and a customer's car and what I did was I cut a vent/hole on the bumper in front of the radiator and the highest the temperature I have seen was 195*

What is its BTU rating? If it cannot dissipate the heat then you will need to find one correctly sized that can.

How much HP?

What radiator are you running?

If it's stock, run the stock fan and put your slimfan in as a pusher. Trim the shroud to fit your DP. If not, build a shroud the best you can, and add a pusher to the front. Trust me, it will fit just fine.

Use water wetter, distilled water, and triple check to make sure you have gotten all of the air out of the system. (just make sure that if you live in an area that will freeze, to drain and refill with 50/50 when winter comes around).

The hardest part about cooling turbo cars is that you have a big *** intercooler blocking the radiator. So you need to FORCE as much air through it as possible. The shroud is rediculously important for directing air through the radiator, and a pusher will help move air throught the rad and get more volume to cool the fins. I have also seen people block off the "open" portion of the half rad to try and force more air over towards the radiator with good results.

I run a stock rad and stock fan with a slimline pusher. No issues at all.

How long do you plan on driving this vehicle with that HP in mind? Is this also a daily? I am curious as to why you even still have a heater core if its just a drag car.

Sorry for the many questions..

what is it your trying to say?
Cause if it is what i think it is then answer me this.. A few weeks ago I tuned a street car making over 1000hp and had water temps no higher then 160 degrees.

how long do I plan on driving it? I plan to make about 450-500whp on pump gas and ~650 on C16, not sure what you are asking.

its tracked, but its still a street car... Its not a daily driver by any means.. It used to be at one point.

The rad is a Mishimoto

You can read cant you? What I wrote is a basic engineering formula. Maybe there are other factors played into the car you tuned?

I can read just fine thanks....
Just pointing out that "there are other factors" that can also keep cars with alot of HP cool too..

Then by all means why didn't you just give us all the answers before we all started rambling random nonsense? This would have been a 2 post topic and everyone would have been on their way with life.

When you wired your slim fan to be a pusher did you pull off the blade and switch it around so the blade is cupped the right way.

I have seen many people setup a pusher but not switch around the blade and have issues.
