Default K&N drop in filter...Something can't be right and must be a simple fix.

I just bought a simple filter for the ITR and now after putting the stock air box lid back on I notice that the intake itself has a lot of play inside box when I move around the intake arm. The reason for it is because the K&N filter arm deletes that OEM piece that connects the arm and the air box together with the round gasket which encloses the box. See how in the picture below it's an open hole into the air box. The filter covers it but once you move the arm it moves all over the place. My question is how do you fix it or is this normal or should I just dump this K&N? Sorry for the lame post but I can't find any problems like this. Thanks
