Default Should I buy this motor based upon these facts?

Here is the smog reports for the past few years:
238,892 miles
2010
1500 35hc .5co
idle 77hc .2

219,551 miles
2007
1500 10hc .01co
idle 7hc .0co

17,718 miles
2005
1500 9hc .01co
idle 6hc .0co

150,975 miles
2004
15mph
hc 9, CO .05, NOX 270
25mph
hc 8, CO .06, NOX 77

I'm trying to buy a D16y5 swap and the guy is charging $500. It's pretty much as full swap as you get, though my biggest issue is that this motor has a lot of miles on it and I'm concerned that it's a blown motor considering that this car arrived in the shop in non working condition and they're trying to discard the motor so they can swap in some other motor.
What is an old maniverter worth anyhow? (Cat+manifold)

High mileage...unknown condition. Don't even waste your money.

Considering the motor did significantly worse in its last inspection that the one before it I would say no.
Certainly not for 500 anyway

What if the motor came with a transmission?

d-series may be cheap but I've been having difficulty finding a Y5 motor.. How much would this motor be worth then?

Why do you need a Y5? Why not get a z6? I'd pay $200 tops for the motor you stated in your OP.

I'm doing it for fuel economy.. I mean frankly the motor I have is in excellent condition but I want the Y5 because it gives me more low end torque and more top end hp as well. Pretend the Y5 was a Z6 or some other motor you desire, how much would you pay for it then?

You can find z6 swaps for around the same price. $500 is the most I would pay for a z6 motor that is in better condition. IMO z6 are the best d series motor. It all comes back to you, your money your decision.

I just think $500 for a dead motor with a **** ton of miles is way overpriced. Don't act desperate, try lowballing if they refuse just walk away. If they know you really want it they'll never drop the price.

of the trans is good and it comes with the ECU and harness id say 350-400 for it. If the block is bad you can use a y8 block and just transfer the pistons into the y8 and keep the y5 head/manifold ect ect.

Is $400 acceptable minus the header/catalytic converter? What can you do with a used catalytic converter anyhow? Guy will sell me everything for $500 or sell for $400 minus the header/catalytic converter.. I might have the advantage knowing that the car was close to or is about to fail smog since that would mean that the catalytic converter is now near worthless.

How much would you guys pay and or how much do axles typically go for?
