ok i am really screwed...i think.......
ok i just got a ticket a couple hours ago for going 71 in a 40. i know it was stupid and i had a bad feeling about goin that fast on that street. this is the first time i have even seen a cop on this street. i don't know what to do. i have gotten tickets before but never this severe. what do i do?? is there anyway i can do defensive driving?? on the back of the ticket it says that i can't do it since i was speeding over 30 mph. does the judge have the final say in it?? the cop told me that i can loose my drivers license. i really don't want to loose it cause i need my car to get around. and if i loose my license my parents are sure to find out and i will be totally screwed and probably prohibited to drive. what can i do!!!????
please help me.
please help me.
You can fight it or go to traffic school. Not trying to be a jerk, but how old are you that your parents can take away your driving privileges? Did they buy you your car?
well, from what i read.. youre sayin you cant go to traffic school because its over 30mph? well.. fight it in court... ask the judge if he can give you some leniency.

fight that ****. i got a speeding ticket for going 70 in a 40mph zone. I went to court and the judge dismissed it.
He said the reason is because the Radar speed is inadmissable. The cop looked all hot and irritated. Plus, the cop may not show up.

you can go take traffic school before the actually court date, hold on to your receipt of the class and show the judge, the prosecuter may make a deal with you. although i live in princewillilam county, va and if your going 20 + you can pretty much say goodbye to your license for at least 90days. but like i said take the class dress very nice, dont be afraid to wear a suit, and pray for the best. goodluck........
time is relative (thanks einstein) speed=distance/time. therefore speed is relative, maybe you were only going 20 and it seemed to the radar you were going 71, then again maybe you were going 120. You're screwed........oh, wait........nope I was right the first time you're screwed
you know, i really dont know what that means. I think because the radar is not really accurate. I dont know man, the girl before me was also dissmissed for the same reason i had. I am just happy my insurance wont go up.
i just recently got pulled over for going 80 in a 50 and the ticket said basic speed law.....so when i went to talk to the judge....he gave a 385 fine...but he also gave me the chance to go to traffic school....
Were you cited over for violating the BASIC speed law or for exceeding the POSTED speed? there is a difference. If it was written up as an infraction of the BASIC speed law you might be able to argue out. Example:
In california the basic speed law says something to the effect of "Thou, thee, thine, and yall shall not drive at a speed which is unsafe given current conditions, which include but are not limited to traffic, weather, road conditions (constructions zone? gravel? curvey?), lighting (day time?) etc."
Basically what this means that if the current conditions were not dangerous to be driving the speed you were driving your off the hook. So if you were on a straight, flat, newly paved, dry, 6 lane road with no other traffic with the sun directly over head and light breeze floating in from the west blah blah blah you could go as fast as you damn well please (read: many roads in montana and nevada are like this)
In short see what he wrote you for and check up and see EXACTLY what that offense says in the penal/driving code in your state. You may find a loop hole. Good luck and God speed (err wait no more speeding for you!)

well the place i was driving at was a road that was sorta curvy......you know how that can be fun to drive through.....i wasn't really paying attention to how fast i was driving but i knew damn well that i was speeding. on the ticket it doesn't say posted or basic. it just has boxes for mph and zone.....day, night, radar.
That sucks. Yea, I know how the roads are in San Antonio, fun ****. I don't know man, Texas is strict as hell. Waaaay to strict. I say just take it to court, give it a shot. If nothing comes out of it you gotta pay the consequences, I know I have plenty of times. I know it sucks but you got to pay the consequences sometimes.....Good Luck

i got nailed for racing back when i was a senior in high school. Luckily the public defender did his job for me and worked out a deal w/ the da that i can keep my license, but attend traffic school, and pay over $500 in fines! The whole process took about 3-4 months for me though...and my parent were pissed! Be ready to start selling parts off of your car! Good luck man...life is gonna suck for you for the next...?

lildragondood : hey man .. here in FL .. worst case .. i think you can go into court .. and plead no contest or whatever ... and they will still make you pay a fine .. but not put any points on your license ... i dont know if insurance company will be able to see it or not ..
btw better start intercepting the mail ... they like to send you 300000 things about attending traffic school .. when you get a ticket
Just fight it dawg~

Its not a $70 ticket anymore. As of yesterday that new street racing law went into affect. I beleve now on the 1st offence they can haul you off to jail for 90 days and impound your car.
dude...
go to court, plead not guilty.
talk to the prosecutor, and ask him if he can work a deal out with him. see if he can turn it into a non-moving violation, or some kind of headlight lamp out instead of the speed. if he can't do that, which he probably won't unless you get lucky, ask him if he can lower the speed, OR RECOMMEND NO POINTS ON THE LICENSE...
if he doesn't give **** to you at all, tell him you will be taking the ticket to court and you will be requesting his certification for using a laser gun and calibration records because there was no way you were doing whatever speed you were doing...
trust me, you can knock the speed down or get no points very easily...
i have 5 speeding tickets in the past 3 years... i just got another 80 in a 60 but fought it, and got no points... just had to pay $130 for court/fines, etc... but if I were just to waive it... it would have been $120...
FIGHT IT.

i got one in Austin, TX for 97 in a 60 on I-35.
I thought I was screwed. I just went to court as asked if I could talk to the judge handling my case. I went in, he looked at my record and asked if I had taken defensive driving before and I said no. He asked if I wanted to take it and I said yes. He was like, "ok, take this downstairs *hands me signed form*, you have 90 days to finish this. Paid like $90 in total and erased that 37 mph over jus like that
