Icon2 B-Series options..opinions.. B17A1 -> B20 Vtec?

Hello HT,

I am trying to figure out what would be the best bet for my situation.

I own a 91 CRX Si w/ b17a1 GS-R Swap.

I would like to upgrade to something more torquey and all around more power.

I was thinking about swapping the block for a B20Z. I priced a complete engine from HMotorsOnline for $1,000 shipped to my door, which doesn't seem like a bad price since the engine is guaranteed and low milage. I would then take the head from my b17 and build a B20 Vtec.

Do you guys think this is the best route for the time being? How much do you think I could sell the complete B20 head for? How much am I looking at after buying the block to make a complete B20 Vtec? Is this the best route? What are your opinions on this? I was hoping I could sell the b17 block and b20 head to maybe pay for part of the parts I would need to complete a B20 Vtec.

Any input or suggestions is very appreciated!

I am doing similar swap. Im building B20b with GSR head for better low end torque. B20 head isn't worth much @$50-150 and 1.7 crank @$100-150. You could fund the vtec conversion but could take long to find a buyer since so many on market. Just do the research on conversion. I'm changing pistons to RS machine since I'm worried about valve hitting pistons when I change cams later. Good luck on your build.

There's no replacement for displacement!

Thanks for the comment, I just figured that would be my best bet since there is not much support for B17 performance. I have a b16 head I would be using on the B20Z block, I would probably upgrade to Type - R cams in the future, would I have to worry about the valves hitting?
