$60 A-zone reman or $70 Advance new CV axle?
So, the kids (13yo son and 16yo duaghter) 91 hatch project is getting underway. Needs a new right side axle, old one is so blown that the inner CV is actually in pieces, only about %40 of the outer shell remains.
So, I see Autozone has a rebuilt one for $60 after a $25 core (not sure if the old one will qualify, never turned one in this bad) or Advance Auto has a new GSP one for $70.
A well rebuilt OEM Honda part could well be of higher quality than a cheapie Chinese new part, so I thought I would ask to see if anyone has experience with these parts.
Kids are doing the work themselves under guidance.

shouldn't matter really either way so long as they have a good exhange policy if/when it fails. and i've been told you can turn in cores no matter what shape they're in.
Buy a new one. Do NOT buy a Chinese one. I have put several into customers cars and I see them a year later with the same issue. Remans - i depends on the rebuilder. If the kids are not going to be power shifting and pushing the car hard in corners - then the reman in ok, Otherwise, new is the only way to go...
Thats the problem, I think the new ones, brand name "GSP" are Chinese
And no, they are not going to be pushing it, this is a trainer, so they learn on a stick, and how to handle life on the road when you are not the biggest most powerful thing out there. Other vehicles are the wifes 99 Blazer and my SRT-8. They will learn to drive both, but the Honda will be what they drive daily.

Tell Advance that Autozone can do a new one for $60 and they should price match.
I have used the new one's on many customers cars without problem but have also used the remans without any problems.
Look at the warranty on them and I would get the one that has the best warranty.

I just put 2 autozone remans in my car. The left one was popping when turning the night I pulled it out of the garage, but too lazy to pull it back out and take it back right now.
Thanks for all the advice, folks. turns out Advance is having a %20 off if you order online, even with store pickup, and a $50 card if the order exceeds $100, so since the car needs a battery also, I will end up getting the battery and axle for around $110. So looking forward to teaching the kids to drive this thing

Car stays in my name. Girl gets use of it til either she buys her own, or the boy reaches driving age. If he gets to driving age before she buys one, she's walking
Then the car becomes my toy. Maybe an autocrosser, with about 180-210hp
That seems about the right power level.
Oh, just remembered, get to show the kids lift throttle oversteer.
Had sort of forgetten about that since I sold the Stage 3 SRT-4
That danger is never far away in one of those cars.

Autozone axles FTL, if your gonna buy any axles from parts stores, get a honda oem circlip so they wont always be popping out.
If u happen to be in the so cal area, there is a shop called ABC Axles that i highly vouch for. I pay 40 bux for my axles, and 50 for custom axles. Great quality

i hate vatozone axles. if it weren't for the limited life time warranty(as long as you own car) i would not have gotten them.
reminds me, i have to change out my axles again.

well mine's a std...does that mean i'm outta luck? d15b1 i suppose i should have specified...for some reason i was thinking they'd all be the same, but they're probably not.
How much did you have to pay?

Nope, that means its time for you to upgrade to EX knuckles or DA knuckles and get larger brakes.
I used two Advance Auto axels on my car
I picked one up at the store and got one shipped to my door
THe one shipped to my door was the same price with no core
Use the "advance coupons" ... put in google to find them
You may need to buy a set of plugs or something to get the price up for free shipping or ship it to the store ... instore pickup.. you still get the coupon
