I'm rewiring all my autometer gauges get rid of all the extra wire what is the best igniton wire to splice into without actually hitting the wire to the ignition

 

It would help to tell us what car you have.

In my 96 I have all the gauges wired into an empty spot at the fusebox.

 

^^^ agreed. You have to use a multimeter to check which slot shows 12V DC when the ignition key is turned out. For your car...if you look at the slots, it should say "5" on it. That's the one you need to use. If I'm not mistaken, it's the one in the middle (two to the right of the one that's already plugged in with black/brown wires).
