Default Stainless tig help.

Whenever i start to use filler in my welds the welds start to look grey.. Is this normal? I clean the filler rod and stainless with green scotch bright pads. Im using 304 stainless and 304 rod.

tried alittle back purge for the first time... Only the center part was purged for comparison

make sure your not pulling your filler rod outside the sheild of argon between dips

yes i forgot to say that i was paying extra attention to that.. and while the weld was cooling i would keep the argon on it. thank you for the tip!

lower the heat a bit on my tig225 id be around 60amps and for something that thin id use stainless mig (.035) wire for filler if your fitment is good. if you get your heat right and travel speed good you should get almost no burnthrough and a decent color

ok i was at 100amps but i couldnt be more then 1/2 way on the pedal.. maybe alittle more then 1/2. ill try some mig wire. what cup size are you using? i think mine is a 6..

purge all of your stainless tube. welds so much nicer, and you want your weld to penetrate all the way through. Do you have a gas lense in your torch?

Large gas lens and a number 12 cup will do wonders.

I was gonna say the same thing...with stainless if your welds are grey,its caused by either too much heat,or to slow of travelspeed....gaslenses are worth their weight in gold.....justin
