I was wondering if anyone has made special tools, jigs, etc to repair your cars? I recently did my first timing belt job and I made a camshaft, balanceshaft, and crankshaft oil seal installing tools that install the seals to about 0.060" deep and no more. I measured the shafts and allowed about 0.010" tolerance and machined them out of some tough nylon plastic. They need corresponding threaded rods and nuts that would allow a wrench to set them the seals in. I got lazy and just applied pressure to them to set the seals into place. I did not want to use a socket and risk setting them too deep. I also welded up a crankshaft pulley retaining tool like the aftermarket ones but this idea I borrowed from some internet site.

 

nice... i build a lot of tools... sometimes because i need it "right now" and dont have time to order one, but alot of times i look at overall investment... i built a 20 ton air over hydraulic press, sliding ram mount, tall enough to put an axle housing in it and it weighs a freakin ton... i have about $600 invested and thats what i would have spent on a chinese one w/ less features that is gauranteed to bend... probably have 20 hrs in it and im sure my grandkids will use this some day...
