Hey guys. I'm new here. I can't create a thread yet and I don't mean to hijack a thread but I have a quick question. I just bought an 02 civic with a bad transmission. I'm in the process of getting it out right now and have run into a problem. I can't for the life of me get the lower control arm off of the hub assembly. I removed the stabilizer link and the bolt to the hub assembly and those are the only two things keeping it from coming off. I then inserted a pickle fork and tried prying it off of the tapered ball joint but it wont budge. I tried putting a jack under the rotor and jacking it up a bit to compress the shock hoping that would release some of the tension on the ball joint but it doesn't do a thing. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a special tool I need or will a pickle fork work? Am I missing something altogether?

Thanks in advance

You should be able to make a thread no matter how many posts you have.

Either way, get a ratchet handy, and jack up the knuckle assembly via the lower control arm. Once the assembly is raised up, insert the ratchet here:

Once the ratchet is in place, lower the jack and it will pop the ball joint free from the lower control arm.

I've had similar problems working on an EP3; when the axle is popped out the hub assembly won't separate from the LCA. Just thought I'd share that small piece of knowledge that I ran across.

Thanks toyomatt. I tried that and it didn't work. I'm gonna try and find a pitman arm puller the right size and see if that works. If it doesn't, I guess I'm just gonna have to cut them off at the taper and replace them. I've literally tried everything from heating the bolt to just railing on the lower arm with a hammer. Frustrating just doesn't say it. Anyway, I'm sure it couldn't hurt to replace them.
