JDM B16 Build
Wats up guys, i recently bought a b16a from a guy that had it sitting in his garage with the valve cover off for about 2 months, the head was caked with dirt and dust. So I took the head off to get cleaned and resurfaced. right now I'm not planning on doing anything crazy to it, I'm gonna keep it all stock. The piston tops look good, just the normal carbon build up. Someone told me I should replace the rings, due to the motor sitting so long. Is that something I should do before putting it together?? Any response is welcome. Thanks guys
Ive seen many cases where an engine does just fine being cranked up after sitting a while.
Conversely, Ive seen issues pop up that weren't completely evident until it was "go time".
Some fair middleground may be to replace the rings and run a hand hone through it, just to break the glaze.
The question then becomes, why not replace the bearings while its apart? On that same tip, if you're waiting for bearings, why not take it to a machine shop for a proper hone? The list can grow out of hand quickly. If it were me, I'd do just what you have originally planned. If she smokes, you know what has to be done.
