2003 Honda Pilot LX

my mothers car recently got a check engine light , we scanned it and came up with P505 idle malfunction. when in park the idle fluctuates and when driving the VTM-4 light pops on its own, it also makes a whining noise. what do I need to do to fix it?

 

replace the IAC valve

 

And adjust the valve gaps unless they were done recently.

 

in this vein, I just had a check engine light come on in our 03 Pilot, and the tech said it was the CV canister.What does that mean, and how hard is that to repair?

 

Did you have a Evap code? CV Canister I am assuming you are referring to a Canister Vent Shut Valve and they are really not that hard to replace as long as it is not seized into the canister. Takes about 20 or so minutes.
