Default VC wrinkle paint: baking in your oven stink up your house?

Hi Paint & body:

Quick question. My VC is in desperate need of some fresh paint. So my question is when you stuck in the oven, did you stink up your house? If so did it linger, open windows help? Any thought, advice, and experience would be much appreciated. TIA

There's no need to put paint in the oven.

Oh most DIY i've read suggested it. Whats the right way to dry/cure it? overnight? let the engine heat bake it?

Just use the VHT wrinkle spray paint.

thats what I plan on using. Doesn't the instructions on the side recommend curing it in the oven?

i cured mine by engine heat.
put a good couple of coats on, degreased my engine bay, and put it on. made sure there were nothing that would inhibit the curing.
i just spent the whole day cruising, and still have no problems with it to this day.

I put all my valve covers in the oven after being painted with the VHT wrinkle paint. I've let them air/engine dry and the texture doesn't tighten up the way it does if you were to put it in the oven. There is a decent amount of smell when doing it this way, but by opening a few windows or doors it's not that bad. The smell also doesn't linger for very long either.

I've done 4 valve covers now using VHT wrinkle black. I use the aircraft paint stripper to get them to bare metal. Then just spray that stuff off with a hose. Blow it dry with an air hose. Tape up plug holes and what not. Cut a piece of cardboard just barely bigger then the valve cover and sit it on there. Do 3 even coats of vht. Then stick it in the oven for 30 minutes @ 300 degrees. Yes it does make the house smell pretty bad. Open windows and doors to help out. It does stay around for about a day. Mine have all come out like oem with no issues.

I just want you to know... I specifically made an acount on this website to call YOU (Hawkze_2.3) a F'ing idiot..... I dont even own a hona and probably never will.

There is a specific need to bake items after being painted. it hardens the surface and binds the paint making it one whole piece instead of little shitty paint chips stuck together... so now you can actually press your hands and nails against it just like a car and not have it chip or crack....

God I hate ignorance..

i found when using this stuff that you have to really pay attention to laying it down evenly to get it to wrinkle evenly.

This. 3 heavy coats, about 10 minutes apart from eachother will do the trick.

As stated you need to apply in evenly, and dont be shy to put enough on. You have to give it 3 heavy coats.

No, do as I said, and let it air dry for about 6 hours. DO NOT put in the oven, you have to let it wrinkle on its own. After about 6 hours of air drying put it back on, and let the engine heat from normal drving around finish up the curing.

One weird curing technique i have seen is someone using a box, to trap heat, with a heat lamp for a long period of time.
