Default 98 Accord Transmision Drop {Help} New Clutch.

Hello, Does anyone know specifically how to drop the trans on this vehicle? I'm a DIY type of guy. I need to change the clutch on the car, I bought the Haynes manual but it doesnt show how to drop the trans. It just shows how to replace the clutch and so forth. I am going to do the job tomorrow so can someone please guide me to doing so please?

Thanks in advance

Here you go. This is for an Integra, but it will be similar and give you an idea of the steps involved.

I finally got the transmission housing off but since I didn't drop the sub-frame it's just chilling right there but I have enough space to work with, took the flywheel and clutch out, Man was that clutch toasted. I am having my flywheel resurfaced and it should be ready tomorrow at 11 am Hopefully I finish putting it back on before I leave to work.

Thanks for helping

Is this normal for the new clutch straight out the box?

THe '94-'97s don't have a removable sub frame in the front. When removing the transmission the strut rod needs to be removed to allow the transmission to drop, but otherwise there is nothing to remove, structurally, except for the transmission mount.

As for the pressure plates fingers, I believe the coloration is just from the heat treatment. Call up the company that makes it if you have any questions.

This is a 98, I am guessing you mean 98-02? I know for a fact 94-97 do have removable sub-frames because i replaced mine when I crashed

Which ones are the strut rods? I would be delighted to remove them so it would make the installation easier. Right now the transmission is just rolling around, I already smashed my hand between the transmission and the motor

hurr durr, was thinking 94-97, although they have beams. There is not a single sub assembly that can be removed in the front. '98-02 has a similar system with overlapping arms, but those are under the frame rail, IIRC, I doubt would aid in trans removal.

Honda actually calls them Radius rods. Its the rod that bolts to the front beam with those gigantic rubber bushings, and locates the front lower control arm, fore/aft.

Unless you plan on aligning the car, when taking apart the bushings on the radius rod, there might be shims as well. Keep a good track of which goes where.

Thanks guys. I did it, I just need to put everything back together how it was. It would have been sooo much easier if I would have dropped the transmission. The way I did it was remove a thing you can put a nut on next to the shift arm housing on the transmission. I believe I used a 8mm wrench. Then i slid it all the way to the left to have enough room. For future reference for whom ever does this job, remember to make sure to ALIGN the bottom back of the transmission with the motor mount, will make slipping the transmission into the clutch much easier.

Btw,

Flywheel torque is 54 lbs
Pressure plate is 19

I'm starting to look into a write up or any information I can find on how to replace the clutch in a '93 Accord LX.

Pretty much looking for as close to exactly what is the best way to get the tranny loose enough to do it, or out completely. I'm thinking people probably have different ways to do it, and if there is a good way without disconnecting and dropping everything in the engine compartment. But whatever works really.

Thanks in Advance!
