Tein S-tech and shock questions....
I have tein S-techs on my car and this is my first time not having some sort of Eibach product on one of my cars. That being said, the S-techs feel softer to me. Are the Eibachs a higher spring rate? The S-techs def sit lower. The car seems to bottom out more then my last Em1 did with Eibach pro's. Running Tokico Illuminas as shocks.
The tires tend to rub when turning at a slower speed. Im running 195/50-16's. Im just curious as to if its being caused by a low spring rate? Ive found the spring rates for both could this be the cause? S-techs look to be the softest rate out there.
Eibach ProKit - 290F/190R (P/P
Tein S. Tech - 235F/140R

H.Techs would be equal to the prokit in drop, where s.tech would be the same as the sport kit. So I'm not surprised about your drop, I'm sure you weren't either. DEFINITELY lower then the Eibachs. I've heard these complaints you mentioned about the S.Techs before. Are you rubbing more in the front or in the back? The soft spring rates and low aggressive drop from the S.Techs definitely don't help your situation...Everything you mentioned about the s.techs are pretty common from what i've read, perhaps some fender rolling will help you call it a day.
Sidenote- How are your shocks doing? I could have swore I read that illuminas dont get along w/a drop like the s.tech will give, not sure about this though...shocks aren't blown by chance are they? I read another thread a while back from some guy stating he blew his shocks in like 5k miles running on s.techs.
Personally, I didn't want to chance some of the comments I read so I went w/the pro kit myself...which leads me to one more question; after a successful run w/the Pro kit how come you didn't go the Eibach sport kit and call it a day?

Unfortunatly they were on the car when i purchased it. Most of the rubbing is on the front. The shocks still seem to be in good working order. Im not a fan of slammed setups nor will i ever be. I figured why spend more money if it already has s-techs on it. Looks like im gna have to though. The clunking sound it makes is just awful and the rubbing is annoying. I believe im gna go back to Eibach pro's Like i had on my last em1. They are a really good spring with a modest drop. I hate these kids they do not research parts and think lower is better. Who knows what suspension damage is under there. Thank you for the response.

I'm very surprised you rub at all with s. techs on the car.
What size wheel/tire are you running?
Is it lateral rubbing? or the top of the fender seam?

Actually it rubs both ways.......fender seam and laterally. Ive gta buy new tires soon, so im think in of going 205/45-16 or maybe 195/45-16? The first I though it could have been would be the rebound rate on the shocks? Im hoping its tire sizing. Honestly i hate how soft the rate is for such a agressive drop. Are these springs linear or progressive rate?
Yeah the tires aspect ratio is too high, also depends on the offset of your wheels. With the car being so low with such a soft rate, hitting large bumps/dips means you're much more likely to hit the bump stops. If your Illuminas are in good shape, there should be no problem using the S-Techs with them.
Pretty sure the springs are progressive.
Changing the tire size might help with the rubbing but there's not much you can do about hitting the bump stops.

I believe if paired with a decent shock like a koni srt or an illumina the tein would be fine. People probably assume you can put the s. techs on stock shocks and be okay, but you cant.
Yea i still hate the bouncing feeling though.....Thanks man for the help hard to find knowledge on here anymore.....I see we are both old timers on here join date of 05 ahha
For about the first 4 years I was on here I was clueless. I've got some pretty embarrassing old posts.
not trying to jack the thread but I just bought some s-techs for an 00 si with the stock wheels with 205/50/15 tires... also going to use stock shocks for now... wondering if i made the right choice now haha.. just wanted to sit a little lower for now, also, are the rear s-tech springs shorter than the front s-tech springs? sorry if its a dumb question haha
You 'can' use these springs on stock shocks. Many people have done it with good results. Now, you 'should' be using a aftermarket shock, like the Koni Str-t for these springs.
The spring rate is mild enough that it wont kill the shock really quick, but none the less, they will eventually blow.
I've sold my s-techs because they were even softer than stock. I think they suck.
They are only good for the best roads in the world where you dont go over any bumps.
Sportlines are much stiffer than s.techs.
I bought neuspeed by the way.

For example, I have mine so that my car is at exactly the same height from all four corners of the cars frame when I'm in it. When I'm not in the car it's slightly higher on the driver's side by about .25".
Coilovers are really the way to go if you want a predictable, well handling car.
I hear that...I agree totally with you. For the price and for what I will be doing I honestly believe some Koni's and Eibachs will suit me perfect. Im the kinda person that wont buy a $800 set of coilovers. We all know this s supercheap for a set. Tein has never been one of my favorite brands. Zeal, Cusco, Moton, Blstein, Eibach are brands I covet the most. Koni probally being my favorite.
Coilovers offer so much in adjustments and ride height so many things that i just do not need for my DD. Coilovers are better no doubt. I just want a decent drop with a firm ride. In the distant future coilovers are on my list. There are just to many different things I need for my car right now.
Thank you for your input.

Why not spend $500 on progress CSII's then? Custom rates...just about the same cost as a good set of springs and shocks together.
The only worthy, sub $800 coilover.
