Check engine light on and d4 Light blinking after tranny swap
Okay. I bought a used 97 accord se auto. The transmission on it was no good so I got a used one with about 60k miles on it and had my mechanic put it in. Now, the check engine light is on, and once I begin driving it, the d4 light starts blinking. It shifts great, no slipping, drives great. But now my worry is that I wont be able to pass inspection in NJ because of these lights. Any ideas what can be done or what the problem may be?
Might be a speed sensor, that's what it was for me... I had my neighbor (who conveniently works at Open Road Honda in Edison) look at it, and the problem was fixed in a heartbeat!
Suggestion; Take it back to your mechanic and have him scan the ECU & TCU codes. You should not have to post this question on an internet forum. If a mechanic did the work he should scan the codes for you and let you know what's up. Could be something wrong with the used trans that you bought......if so you might be able to send/take it back.
I know around here if the CEL or TCU warning lights are on they will do a quick scan to determine if it is a public/personal safety issue. If they deem the CEL or TCU code(s) are a safety concern they can and will fail your car.

Did you need a new speed sensor? I think I'll be taking it back to my mechanic to pull the codes. Such a pain getting another transmission put in.
You could rest the ECU by removing the the ground from the battery for a few minutes. I did this w/ my 97 Cl that i replaced the trans on 2 weeks ago which was shifting ok (Had a bump down shifting from 3-2 and 2-1) until i rest the ECU. Now it shifts just like the original trans.
With the 93 Accord there is a self diagnostic procedure that you can do to read the code flashes from the check engine light.
There are a number of threads with step by step instructions on how to do this procedure. I'll do a search and see if I can post a link for you. If I do not post back in a reasonable amount of time you should try and do a search for it as well.

good luck

they are pretty cheap or u can get them at a junkyard ...
if u go to shucks orilleys and use they free ecu check device that reads system problems when check engine light comes on it will tell you the same thing!
