Default 96-98 Auto Trans ?'s

i have a 97 civic hx with a d16y8 motor it's a automatic and the tranny went out so i picked up another one but it's out of a 2000 and didn't realize when i bought it that the mounts and torque converter are completely different... so instead of finding another tranny and wasting even more money can the internals of the new tranny be used and will they fit in my old tranny casing??

It's not a '96 - '98 vs '99 - '00 Difference, it's an HX vs everything else difference, HX's used an CVT tranny instead of a normal automatic. They're rare, expensive and absolutely craptatular in terms of both staying together and performance. You can either try to find another one or swap in a 5 speed.
