Default water in motor

Short story is i went through a puddle that was way too deep. I took the spark plugs out and can see water down in there. anyone know the best way to remove water from an engine? Also she wont crank at all, just a fast ticking like a switch being flipped repeatedly. I'm hoping this is electrical, could water seize my motor?

If it's a fast clicking, I'd check the starter.

You may have Hydro locked your motor, not a good thing, I would pull the start and have it tested, they do go bad w/ out any warning.

Pull the spark plugs. Put a socket on the crank, can you spin the motor over by hand.....This will also help getting the water out.....if you are lucky...but the starter making that noise sounds like you hydro locked it.

Water doesn't compress all that well. Oh wait! It doesn't compress at all and it takes as little as 55-60cc to possibly lock up an F22 cylinder.

x2 on removing all of your spark plugs and seeing if the engine will turn over. Hopefully you haven't bent a rod!

Good luck

Yeah, couldn't crank the motor by hand so i've more than likely hydrolocked it eh? would it be better to replace the engine or have it repaired... i'm thinking replace it since it has 250k on it. anyone got a good deal on a running F23a1? also looking for a D16z6.

Well if you removed all the spark plugs and still couldn't turn it over you probably jumped a few teeth or broke the timing belt and you are hitting the valves or you may have bent a rod. Replacing it with a lower mileage engine would probably be a cheap way to go. Even cheaper if you can do the labour yourself.

Depending on what is going on the engine could probably be rebuilt though. It would probably cost more than a complete swap, however it woudl be a completely fresh engine.

Yup, hope you don't have a bent rod. Compression test will tell you if you do or not.

a few years ago I ran through a puddle too. and i didnt have a splash guard so water gushed right into my intake. i had to swap in the same engine.

it cost me $450 for the motor
and $450 for labor and all my troubles where gone within a day or two.

it was an expensive lesson and it sucked really bad. the shop said i had bent 2 rods and damaged something else. and it done the same thing your saying. it wouldnt turn over just a click sound and i couldnt crank it by hand and water was all in the plug tubes

i remember i was able to crank it over a little bit but then it got stuck
hydro locked

all from a fuking splash guard

This is a very informational thread. I guess I'll leave my splash guards on.

I still don't see how you can drive through a puddle and get water in your engine unless you submerged the car.

Low hanging intake and a deep puddle.^

Don't waste you time rebuilding. F22s are dirt cheap. Unless you happened to be idling through the puddle I would bet good money that you busted it up pretty good.

well when i went through the puddle it was like the log flume at six flags. and it was on a busy city street and i didnt think it could get flooded in that part of the city from a light rain and it just totally caught me off guard. When i hit it, it slowed my car down and jerked me forward. and if you seen where my intake leads to you would totally understand .

there is a hole where the airbox was so the tires hitting the water by that hole was like a supper soaker directly into my intake.

i still have my splash guards off, but I made a removable aluminum cover for the hole that caused my hydro lock.

when its dry out i can remove the aluminum protector and get my ram air effect

ill post some pics later

yeah, i hydrolocked my b16 right before this last christmas. i had a CAI on, and got hit with a bad storm on my way back from laughlin. got about a 1/4 mile from my house and hit a puddle i didn't even see until the last second, i was in 1st gear and quickly took it out of gear when i went through it, and it still hydrolocked the motor. when we tore it down, i had a bent rod and a cracked cylinder. but i had all of the same symtoms you are having. Good luck. And I claimed it on my insurance, it falls under water damage, atleast with my insurance. And it was a comp claim, no points towards me or up in insurance. They totaled the car out and gave me a check and i bought it back. It might be worth checking into.

Cold Air Intake will make more power but I was never a fan of it. SRI for me.

A few HP and hella JDM bling under the hood does not compare to hydro locking the engine on your DD..
Go SRI or at least get some kind of "block off" or AEM bypass valve.
