Default easiest engine swap for a d16y8

I am looking for any input on what would be the easiest engine swap for my 97 Honda. I currently have the d16y8 but want something with a little more get up and go but not a lot of rewiring!!!

full complete b16a2 99-00 si swap or b16b 96+ ctr with in dash harness for speed meter to work. Did a complete swap b16a2 for my cousin's 98 civic sedan in 2010. He bought it for 1500 complete w/ in dash harness too. My cousin ran 15.6 bone stock no nothing at the track. He ran 16.8 w/ his d16y8 and now 15.6 w/ 99 si motor also tranny grind too. My other friend has a 99 ek hb w/ 99 si motor and also run 15.01 w/ only intake. I would boost the y8 or supercharge it but if you want to swap then here you go.

you'll need 99-00 si
driver's side mount (can't use ls or gsr mount. You can use ur old one but it will break all the time cause not made for b series only d series)
rear t bracket mount (can't use ls or gsr mount)
use your other mounts except the top one i listed
both axles or (94-00 b series will work too )
p2t ecu (99-00 si ecu) or pct ecu (96+ ctr if you are going w/ the b16b)
99-00 si shift linkage
99-00 si radiator (can use old one but overheats alot cause b series runs hotter)

Usually all this will include if you buy a compete swap.

he said he doesn't want a lot of rewiring so boosting the Y8 is best option and will most likely run better times than a stock B16a2

That's really the best/easiest option to make reliable power. Keep in mind be sure you have a reputable shop tune the engine. The tune is critical if you want the engine to last and make good power.

yes and make sure if you want your engine to last long and not blow up after a couple months make sure you check the condition how many miles does it burn or leak oil maybe its time for a rebuild first than boost it cause any engine can be boosted but not every engine is factory fresh

never understood the whole D series thing. get a B series, then turbo that later if you really want a turbo. SOHC VTEC motors just aren't the same feeling as a DOHC. i wouldn't turbo a D series and make 160 wheel hp when i could run a B18C5 with bolt ons tuned and run more. just saying, price out each, depends on your budget obviously, just wouldn't want you to spend more on a turbo then a stock RSX still pulls on you.

What's the difference between 250whp on a d-series and 250whp on a b-series?

If I only had ~$4000 I'd much rather have a 250whp d-series than a 150-160whp B-series.

I think people just assume that B-series engines are just laying all over the place and are as cheap as dirt all over the country. So not true.

The reason you boost a D is because it's what you have. Some of us can't afford nor want the extra hassle of finding a suitable swap, doing the swap and then boosting on top of all of that. Some of us just want a little more power and aren't trying to break that 300-400 horsepower mark.

Not to mention if you have a reliable running d-series you can expect it to continue being a reliable running d-series if you get a good tune and your kit is of at least moderate quality.

exactly not everyone can find a B series for 500 dollars complete swap...and like the OP said she's a girl she's not looking for a time consuming swap if B series was so cheap nobody would be rocking SOHC but there are people because its not in their budget to run a B18C5 and boost it.. and D series can handle more than jsut 160 Wheel... im just saying
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-CvdlJLes4 ... like i said im just saying

I don't know who said D-series can only makde 160whp, thousands of people run 250-300whp on the stock bottom end. Rod upgrades and sleeves you can easily break into the 450+whp range.

How much power do you need? Turbo has always been the easiest and most cost effective way to make power.

I'm pretty sure she asked what the easiest "Swap" was for her car, not "how do i turbo my D series" and who doesn't know where to get a B series from now days, there's all over the place they may not be 500 bucks, i never said they were cheap, well depends of your definition on cheap, but... the easiest swap would be a B series, B16A2.it's fine if you want to turbo your stock bottom end D series, i'm just saying start with a better platform, and DOHC is 10 times better then SOHC.

Luckily there's plenty of swaps that don't require a lot of wiring. Before I started looking into it I figured there might be more to it than there really was.

Nope, it was super easy.

I have a 1998 Civic EX coupe, which also had the stock D16Y8 (manual) in it since it rolled off the factory floor.

My car now has a 2000 Integra GSR engine in it (B18C1) and it was a very easy install.

We used the factory D16Y8 harness in fact. Hmm... thinking back I remember we extended the O2 sensor wire (purchased an extension from RyWire for about $20), left the IAT unplugged, left the crank sensor unplugged, reroute the EVAP purge solenoid and used an OBD2A CTR ECU (1997 only).

The car is clean, throws no codes, started right up the first try. This was done in my garage with an engine lift borrowed from a coworker (don't need a lift sitting around forever) and two friends did a lot of the work since I'm also a girl and I just plain don't have enough upper body strength for a lot of the work.

The biggest advice I can give you is to just not rush into it. That will save you a lot of headaches. If you can find at least one person to help out who knows a little about it as well, that's a huge help too.

Her being a girl doesn't matter AT ALL in this thread besides that people might accidentally call her "he" or "him" or "dude" or "man". Far from the end of the world and it has zero bearing on the actual discussion.

She also didn't tell us her reason for wanting an "easy" engine swap. She just said she doesn't want a lot of rewiring. She could be short on time or funds or she might not have wiring knowledge and is fearful of it or she just might be thinking it's going to make the car a rat's nest. She never told us why.

Well, who is doing the swap?

I've seen a guy build a wire harness off the stock harness for the chassis and the one for the engine swap. It took him overnight. Put some headphones on, sat down and started working.

Very few engine swaps leave the car down more than a couple days.

A y8 is like what 127hp? On low boost you'll get to like to like 150-170hp. Thats just as much as like a B-series stock. LOL do what you want but if im goin to boost I would boost a dohc motor for even more power..unless you got work into the block of that sohc.

they asked for a easy way to make power... not a B swap... B swap is like 1500+ depending where u live than a turbo a good one not egay is atleast 800+ for a kit thats 2300+ just to boost a B swap where u can avoid that by boosting a D series and making some power nto 500 Wheel so dude just stfu she asked for a little more get up and go not a lot DOHC is not the only way to go and if youre going to talk about DOHC why not go K since its way more power than a B series and its a newer technology why not do a K20 with a K24 head there are countless options to make power easiest is to boost a D series
