What exactly was the test and why exactly did you fail? What were your readings?

What check engine code made you fail? It is written on the emissions test.

Thread titles MUST summarize the tech problem (be topic specific) so that members browsing titles can understand the problem without reading the post.

Title edited.

i am new to this honda tech thing, am not really use to the web site i thought it would be a great tool to get help from therefore i am sorry for my mistakes, but for the emissions part.. it couldn't read my ECU because its a chipped p28 so they ran it threw the battery and am looking at the results right now all it says FAIL: idle result under HC(PPM) not sure what exactly that is and all the other categories i passed.. thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.

What mods have been done to the car? Need a little more info. It's hard to fully diagnose without knowing more about your car.

Some guesses though. Your P28 is chipped with a generic chip which basically just increases the fuel and advances timing and is causing the car to run rich. Have you checked the thermostat lately? If its stuck the ECU will run in loop mode which will throw the car off. How is your cat?

hc is hydrocarbons, ppm is parts per million. Your car is running rich, there is too much unburnt fuel reaching the tail pipe. If you passed the fast idle test and you don't have a p0420 (converter efficiency problem) your converter should be fine. Like mechanix stated a list of your mods and ANY driving/running problems is need.

its not much mods. it has a skunk2 test pipe stock b16 motor and the chip p28-( launch control at 4 and vtec cracks at 5) & also a password jdm intake and pretty much everything else is stock..& to the thermostat been broken since i purchased the car awhile back lol....but THERES absolutely no problem with the car from what i can see and also it makes no strange noises, all the fluids are up to date. Can i run one of those cleaners that they sell such as "guarantee to pass emission" formula?

thanks everyone.

OH also it has hytech REP headers? i dont know if that will make a big deal or not.but under HC(PPM) on cruise limit i got 180. Cruise emissions 167. cruise results PASS. idle limit 220. idle emissions 382. idle results FAIL.

test pipes are illegal. probably one reason why you failed.

you failed cause of your test pipe.
a catalytic converter has a purpose and its to burn fuel and convert it into earth friendly air. lol
the test pipe doesnt do anything for emissions. performance and sound only.

The problem is the test pipe and bad thermostat. Once they are both fixed you should be in good shape. The test pipe is bad for obvious reasons and the bad thermostat is causing the engine to not operate at the appropriate temperature which then causes the ECU to run in loop mode.
