I recently purchased a 4wd 1993 EH1 civic, however the rear cross member that the diff should be attached to is missing. Does anyone know where I could get this?

 

Possibly from the UK, at Honda Original Parts. LOL @ price, though. Probably shoulda checked if that part was there first. Might have some luck out of the wreckers in New Zealand where they get some JDM parts.... very unlikely though.

I was tricked into buying it. The car was driving so I did not think anything was wrong with it. I found out when I took it home and my mechanic looked under it. The entire back subframe was made out of bed iron welded to the chassis of the vehicle.

 

That probably deserves pics. Might give a better idea of what else is missing, too.

I take it it's a JDM import? Is it an RTX (carbureted) or RTSi (has a rear wiper and a DOHC engine)? MT or AT?

Well, I don't want to speculate that it is part #1, since it was missing to begin with. I don't see RTX or RTSI on the papers, however the engine is carbureted. The engine number is ZC3201597. I am still unable to attach pics.

I think you have bigger problems. The EH1 was a 4WD Civic (rare) and you are completely missing the rear wheel driveshafts. (And is that an exhaust pipe running over the welded cross-member? That is where the rear centre drive shaft should run.) At this point you should probably cut your losses.

The least expensive option to fix it is going to be a visit to the wrecker yard and removing a cross-member from a regular 92-95 Civic sedan and hoping that fits ... you will only have 2WD of course .. and there is no guarantee that it will fit. Possibly, the previous owner tried this already though, before he went through the time and effort of a weld job. The carbureted engine means you have a JDM RTX, but I would see what happened to the transmission, because it should have a place to insert that rear centre drive shaft that transfers power to the rear wheels.
